Rider said in the early stages he was content with the position outside of MARINE CORPS, however that horse elected to race one off the fence and then was taken three wide when ABLE ENGINE shifted away from the rail near the 1100m. He said the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout and he was reluctant to restrain unnecessarily to get a trailing position behind ABLE ENGINE and felt the horse was comfortable racing in that position. He said the horse dropped the bit on the home turn, however finished its race off nicely, but in his opinion will be better suited by stepping up in distance.

Rider said instructions were to lead if possible. He said the gelding showed sufficient early speed, however ARGO’S REVENGE also improved to his inside, so he had to make more use of the gelding than he would have liked. He said at its previous start the horse was inclined to overrace and hang out and for this reason he was intent on pursuing the lead and getting the horse across to the rails. He added that the horse then travelled nicely in front and weakened over the concluding stages. He said he would have preferred not having to make as much use of the horsein the early stages.
