Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether the horse afforded a fair start. Stewards ascertained that as the start was effected Lips ‘N Hips, which was being handled by a barrier attendant, reared as the gates opened, making contact with the overhead partition, losing considerable ground. Subsequently stewards found that the horse was not impeded by the attendant and declared the horse a starter. Apprentice jockey A. Sewel was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
