Rider questioned re tactics - explained after being moderately away and settling at rear of the field failed to muster early speed and settled further back than anticipated. Stated approaching home turn when asked to improve, due to greenness, had a tendency to lay in for a short period causing some inconvenience when trying to shift to the outside of CHECKMATE LAD to obtain clear running. Further stated colt finished race off quite strongly and would benefit from todays run and appreciate a step up in distance.
