Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned trainer B. Guy regarding the horse’s improved performance. Mr Guy explained that the mare has raced well in the past racing over a similar distance to that of today’s event or further. He added that at its most recent start over 1400m, although the mare ran 9th, it was only beaten 4.7 lengths and was hampered near the 200m and unable to secure clear running over the final stages and he was not disappointed with that performance. Stewards noted his explanation.

B. Pengelly was unable to offer any reasonably explanation for today’s disappointing performance, adding that he was not entirely comfortable with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
