Began awkwardly. Trainer questioned re improved performance - explained that first start had a tendency to overrace and was slightly inconvenienced rounding home turn and weakened late over the concluding stages. Added following that race of the opinion would improve with that run however, elected to trial prior to racing and in that trial changed the bit and added a tongue tie in an attempt to have the gelding settle better in its races. Further added subsequently trialled well in that gear and was ridden in a similar manner, which including added fitness contributed to improved performance.
