Reared as the start was effected and lost ground before being ridden forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 900m. Approaching the 250m had to be eased when crowded for room by another runner. Rider advised that despite beginning awkwardly and losing ground the gelding races best when racing in a forward position and therefore elected to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the lead.
