Tactics queried. Rider stated that he was instructed to settle the gelding midfield and in a position off the rail. He added after gaining a position midfield on the back of STUCK WITH YOU, he then elected to maintain that position when LI’L RODGE improved three wide to take up a position in the lead, when it was reasonable for him to allow his mount to improve onto the back of LI’L RODGE. Further added that he didn't improve three wide as he was comfortable following STUCK WITH YOU, however, when STUCK WITH YOU gave ground, he was then taken back through the field and unable to improve.

Slow to begin. Apprentice N Fazackerley reported that his mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages and was inclined to hang out from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off hind. Trainer R Stephenson was advised that BERNIE’S TIGER would require a veterinary certificate prior to the gelding trialling or starting again.
