A pre-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a superficial abrasion to the near hind leg whilst being floated to the track, however the horse was cleared to race. Overraced in the early stages.

Rider indicated that the horse was under pressure from the 400m and weakened badly and she could not offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer indicated that this was the horse’s first start on a heavy track and that its previous runs had only been on soft rated rain-affected tracks. He indicated that this, in his opinion, may have been the reason for the disappointing performance and that he would monitor the horse’s post-race recovery and advise stewards should anything come to light which may have affected the performance. Vetted post-race, no abnormalities.
