When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Byrne stated that after enjoying a favourable position just behind the lead, the horse travelled well throughout the race, however when asked for an effort after passing the 500m failed to respond and did not run out a strong 1800m. Trainer Mr G. Burns was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance, adding that he would have tests performance on the gelding in the coming days and would report the results to stewards. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
