The start was delayed when the horse became fractious in the barriers and got its near hind leg up on the barrier partition. Laid in from the 800m, particularly in the home straight, causing its rider to be unable to fully test the gelding.

Apprentice B. Northdurft reported his mount raced very greenly in the home straight and laid in over the concluding stages. He added the horse made an abnormal respiratory noise shortly after straightening and again passing the winning post. A post race veterinary examination of the horse revealed a suspected palate displacement. Trainer L. Hatch was advised that the horse must undergo an endoscopic examination prior to its next race start, the results of which to be forwarded to stewards.

Jockey S. Doyle reported that his mount bled from the near-side nostril. After reviewing footage of the race and following a veterinary examination it was established the presence of blood was as a result of external trauma having been fractious in the barriers and the horse also sustained bruising to its lip, an abrasion on the chest and a laceration to the near side stifle.
