When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey Cassidy indicated he had planned to settle the horse in a forward position however after beginning awkwardly and being interfered with at the start, was obliged to take hold and settle with cover at the tail of the field. Overraced in the middle stages.

When being restrained passing the 800m to allow another runner to cross his mount, raced ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey B. Thornton regarding his tactics after passing the 900m, which after having had a position on the fence in the lead, resulted in his horse being positioned 3 wide without cover passing the 600m. He indicated to stewards when BEAUDRAGON was improving to the lead he elected to steady and allow that horse to cross and it was his intention to shift out to settle outside that horse if possible, however when he rest
