When questioned, apprentice B. Thornton expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance in that it was inclined to lay out for the majority of the race. Trainer S. O’Dea stated that the gelding had worked well leading into the event, which included a pleasing performance in an unofficial barrier trial on Tuesday, 10 July. Mr O’Dea was unable to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to have the gelding examined by the stable veterinarian, the results of which will be forwarded to stewards.
