Obliged to alter course near the 400m to secure clear running. Stewards questioned Mr M. Lakey, trainer of the winner, regarding the seemingly improved performance. He indicated that, in his opinion, the horse appreciated the step up in distance to 1600m today, and whilst he was somewhat surprised by the performance, indicated that at the horse’s most recent start it had been unlucky in that it was held up for clear running during the early stages of the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
