Passing the 1300m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of REAL ELUSIVE. Approaching the 300m improved on to heels and had to alter course to the outside to secure clear running passing the 200m. Inside the final 100m shifted out under pressure resulting in RED BALTER racing in restricted room for a short distance. Rider R. Wiggins, rider SCOTTISH LAD, was advised to exercise more care.

When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice M. Wishart stated it was not her intention to lead by the distance she did, however the mare overraced and refused to settle. Apprentice Wishart further added that the saddle shifted back in the middle stages, which placed her at some disadvantage during the race.
