Tarrant, rider of VALADYIUM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he rode in a careless manner, after being disappointed for a run to the outside of SOLDIERS he then directed his mount in to attempt to gain clear running to the inside of SOLDIERS, which resulted in WINERIES, which had improved to the inside of VALADYIUM, being tightened for room on to the hind quarters of DIOMEDES, resulting in jockey J. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Huxtable indicated from the wide alley he had been instructed to settle back in the field. He stated the horse raced quite greenly in the early stages and overraced badly at heels. Apprentice Huxtable added he was obliged to shift out to avoid heels approaching the first turn and as a result raced wide from that point onwards and allowed his mount improve into the race. He added that the horse’s manners in the early stages did have a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance, and the horse despite this ran on fairly.
