Apprentice A. Thompson was questioned in relation to his riding of BAMBALAM and the significant margin he established during the middle stages. He advised stewards his instructions were to initially obtain cover which he attempted to do, however was unable to do so in the early stages and therefore elected to allow the horse to stride forward and secure the lead in an attempt to have the settle. He indicated he obtained the lead in the back straight, and after restraining, the horse commenced to fight against being restrained and it became unbalanced and its breathing he felt was restricte
