Stewards questioned jockey M Du Plessis regarding the tactics adopted from the 500m onwards. Jockey M Du Plessis advised that after passing the 1200m, the pace slackened and as a result he was obliged to steady from heels. He then indicted in order to improve from approaching the 600m, he was obliged to initiate contact with AWAIT THE STORM forcing that horse wider. He further stated that from the 500m his mount was awkward and had a tendency to lay in when asked to quicken and after having initially looked to improve to the outside of BENGAL BANDIT, he was unable to obtain this run.

Slow to begin. from heels and bumped with GINJA on several occasions when the pace slackened in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding who weakened noticeably in the straight revealed atrial fibrillation. Trainer L Wanless was advised that he must produce the results of an ECG as well as a veterinary certificate for SIMON SAYS prior to the geldings next start.
