When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice explained that after beginning only fairly she rode her mount along in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a prominent position, however when the pace slowed in the middle stages the mare commenced to over-race, was inclined to hang out and refused to settle. She said that when placed under pressure prior to straightening, her mount failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have lost its near hind place and to have been galloped on.
