When questioned regarding the gelding racing further back in the field today, Apprentice explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding with cover if possible. He said that after passing the 1400 metres when runners to his outside improved, he elected to restrain his mount where it commenced to over-race. However after being crossed the gelding settled. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued, however was reminded of her obligation to inform stewards of any proposed change in tactics.
