Prior to the event, connections advised Stewards that it was the intention for the horse to be ridden in a forward position today if circumstances permit. After being slow into stride, the horse settled at the rear of the field. Apprentice M. Schrapel allowed his mount to stride forward to take up a more forward position when racing keenly near the 1200m, and as a result was forced to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

On passing the winning post on the first occasion, the gelding was steadied to avoid the heels of BAY RAIDER (N. Tomizawa) which was taken in by NATIONAL JEWEL (G. Steele) which shifted in when not completely clear. Became unbalanced for a short distance near the 1300m when placed in restricted room to the inside of MCGILL (C. Small) which shifted in.
