Sears advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited in races when able to lead and, for that reason, he had instructed jockey M. Cahill to stride forward to obtain this position if possible. He added that the gelding was fitter for its second run over the 1640m today, and based on these factors, he had expected a forward showing from the gelding. Stewards noted the explanation.
