After beginning only fairly, was tightened for room shortly after the start losing ground, and as a result settled further back than anticipated. Jockey C Bayliss reported that as a result of being hampered at the start, he was forced to race in a rearward position which he felt was the major contributing factor to the geldings below market expectation performance as the horse was reluctant to race through the kick back.

Jockey C Robertson reported that the gelding had a tendency to hang in during the event and put in a number of awkward strides near the 500m. Jockey Robertson added that for this reason he eased the gelding down in the home straight. As a veterinary examination was not undertaken due to the vet attending to an injured horse, stewards will follow up with trainer B Mair in the day subsequent to today’s race in relation to the gelding’s post-race recovery.
