Victoria has won the 2017 UBET Origin Jockey Series by the barest of margins, holding off New
South Wales on the final day of competition in Queensland.
The team led by Luke Nolen and Clare Lindop arrived at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on the third
and final day trailing New South Wales by two points.
But Victoria stormed to the lead after Lindop saluted on the Natalie McCall-trained Witness in the
penultimate heat.
Jamie Kah (South Australia) clinched the final Origin race aboard the Helen Page-trained Social Vampire, but it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap.
Victoria finished on 21 points ahead of NSW (20), with South Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania
in a three-way tie for third (18). The All Stars finished on 16 points, while home state Queensland
finished seventh on 15 points.
The UBET Origin Jockey Series is a highlight of the new-look $15 million Queensland Summer
Racing Carnival. The series brought together some of Australia and the world’s most successful
jockeys for a three-day event between December 8-10.
