RACE TWO
THE NEXT STAR (2) circled them early from the 2nd line last start and did her share of work in the run when fighting on to hols the silver behind PRECIOUS CULLEN. A passing lane winner 4 starts back, this is her best gate for some time and she looks to get her chance. OLIVER WINKLE (10) was game in defeat last start when working hard in the run and only faded the closing stages behind LILAC FLASH. Meeting some handy performers in recent starts, he can look to get around them and issue a strong challenge. REAL KNUCKY (7) has placed at his past 3 starts, the latest when 3m from HOT DOGMA after using the passing lane. He looks set to get a cosy trip here and will be probing for the run. MISS CATALINA (1) has been campaigning at the EKKA with 3 placings in her 3 events over the week. Back to mobile conditions and a cosy run in transit, she can look to take a closing shot. SELECTIONS: THE NEXT STAR (2), OLIVER WINKLE (10), REAL KNUCKY (7), MISS CATALINA (1) SUGGESTED BET: THE NEXT STAR (2) to win
RACE THREE
LETHAL PROMISE (10) lands the tricky gate, but he has been a consistent performer around the triangle in recent starts with a top 3 finish at 13 of his past 14 outings. Last week he did all the heavy lifting outside the leader when beaten 2m. Runner-up his past 3, he can go one better this time. WEBBY VANDERQUACK (1) took out the big Show final at the EKKA on Sunday when stepping cleanly and pushing to the front and then holding them all out. From the gate she will get a great trip and be ready to issue the closing challenge when the gaps open. MAHALO (9) worked ahead from the 2nd line and found the pocket trail here 2 back which was the winning move. Beaten 6m behind DAPPER last start, she can look for a ride home to place. UNASSUMING CHAMP (3) will find this harder than his past few but he is in good touch. Last start he took them all the way from gate 2 in good style and with good early speed will be gripping on. SELECTIONS: LETHAL PROMISE (10), WEBBY VANDERQUACK (1), MAHALO (9), UNASSUMING CHAMP (3) SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-3-9-10
RACE FOUR FUI FUI (2) has good early speed and can look to fire the first shot here. His run 3 starts back had merit from the running line behind TOOK YOUR TIME and last start from gate 4 was snagged back and hit the line in good style. In an open contest he can look to make his own luck. DIXIE TRIX (7) is at the other end of the spectrum in that she will need her share of luck and things to go her way. Her past 2 starts have been in mares qualifiers behind GRINVIL and DARKERSHADEOFPALE. If she can spot an opening with track to work with she can swoop. REDDY FIRE (6) has the tough gate to overcome, but this is type of race he could throw down a strong challenge. Too strong from the 2nd line 3 starts back, he is more suited in this than his past 2 starts. LATIN BEATS (5) was a winner from this same gate 2 starts back when working home wide off the track. Too far back last start, with the right cart into the contest she can fill a podium spot.
SELECTIONS: FUI FUI (2), DIXIE TRIX (7), REDDY FIRE (6), LATIN BEATS (5) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE FIVE
OUR PEPPERJACK (2) was in a much stronger contest last start at AP when hitting the line in good order and only 9m from the winner LILAC FLASH. That followed a tough run when sent to the breeze off the 2nd line and only beaten 4m. From the gate he looks to get his chance. INCITER (9) has the tough gate to negotiate yet he is never far away in these type of races. Sent to the breeze from gate 9 last start he worked in the run and went down fighting behind DAPPER. That followed a Marburg win and he won’t be far away again here. THE DREAM MAKER (4) started from gate 10 last start and worked home strongly wide off the track to get within a head of the winner. A winner 3 starts ago, she is a threat from the front line. ARBIT MAJOR (8) did some early work last start when looking to press forward to find position and battled on well. From this gate he can trail through early and can press for a spot in the exotics. SELECTIONS: OUR PEPPERJACK (2), INCITER (9), THE DREAM MAKER (4), ARBIT MAJOR (8) SUGGESTED BET: OUR PEPPERJACK (2) to win
RACE SIX MODERN THOUGHT (7) started from gate 5 last start and was wide early trying to find position before snagging back. From the pocket trail here 4 starts back she went within 4m of the winner. While she will need some luck and factors in her favour, this is wide open and she is worth a dabble. WECANONLYHOPE (9) worked home in good order here last week after being buried back along the pegs. Her run 2 back was a tidy effort behind THE FLOYD and with a pair of show wins from the tapes on Saturday, she has podium claims. FLASHING GOOD TIME (5) dropped to the pegs here last start and chased home in good order to claim the bronze and only 2m from the winner. With even luck from the wide gate she can feature. CHEYENNE WARRIOR (4) found his race last start and after finding the 1x1 trail was able to work home over the top to score. With the confidence of that win he is in the mix once again.
SELECTIONS: MODERN THOUGHT (7), WECANONLYHOPE (9), FLASHING GOOD TIME (5), CHEYENNE WARRIOR (4) SUGGESTED BET: MODERN THOUGHT (7) each-way
RACE SEVEN
WILLSINTOWN (2) did some early work last start from gate 3 before finding cover and running home in good order to finish 6m from the winner. A passing lane winner here 4 starts back, he has the early speed to find the pegs and can cash-in here. FORTES IN FIDES (3) was responsible for a big effort last start after he went off stride after being chopped off in the turn to the back straight. Re-setting the effort was strong to get within 5m of the winner. He can do some work and from this gate he will be right in the fight. ONYA DOUG (4) didn’t have much luck last start from a wide gate and was taken back from gate 5. He has struck some wide gates in recent starts and with even luck can chime in here. ARCH EMPRESS (8) has been in the money at her past 3 starts with her latest effort when only beaten a head when using the passing lane. Trailing through early, she has place claims. SELECTIONS: WILLSINTOWN (2), FORTES IN FIDES (3), ONYA DOUG (4), ARCH EMPRESS (8) SUGGESTED BET: WILLSINTOWN (2) to win
RACE EIGHT ZED EXPRESS (2) started from the 2nd line last start and was hitting the line in good order to grab the bronze. That followed a tidy effort from gate 4 behind MINI MIRACLE and with his best gate for some time, he can look to take full advantage and looks to get every chance to score. KIWI SOLDIER (9) led them up over the AP mile 2 starts back and led them deep into the stretch when collared late and finishing 4m from the winner. Last start he was off his game when trying to lead throughout and fading out. Sharpened with a trial, he can feature in this line-up. DALLAS COWGIRL (1) will get the benefit of the inside running here and taking cover can get the cosy trip. Holding on for 3rd here 3 starts back she can land a placing again in this. DEADSET COURAGEOUS (5) has the wide gate to overcome but strikes a wide-open race. Angled to the pegs to look for luck last start, he has rough claims.
SELECTIONS: ZED EXPRESS (2), KIWI SOLDIER (9), DALLAS COWGIRL (1), DEADSET COURAGEOUS (5) SUGGESTED BET: ZED EXPRESS (2) to win
RACE NINE MUSCULUS (2) makes his Aus debut without a trial and arrives with solid NZ form. Only narrowly beaten at Addington 2 starts back over the 2600m stand, his last start was in the Jewels when down the line behind the smart HABIBI INTA. If he handles the triangle he should be far too smart. REDRIVERDEBBA (5) is also making her 1st appearance in Qld and will be 1st up since the Vicbred 4YO mares final where she found the line in good order behind KINVARA SUE. Coming into this without a trial, she may just need the run, yet can’t be ignored. DAY TOURER (3) has good early speed from the mobile and can look to find early position from the gate. He worked home well off 40m last start and won’t be far away here. NORTHERN MUSCLE (6) made a mess of the start from the tapes last time out and didn’t want to participate. His previous run was a solid effort when 2nd to GHENT and with a win and a 2nd from 3 appearances at the triangle, can chime in here.
SELECTIONS: MUSCULUS (2), REDRIVERDEBBA (5), DAY TOURER (3), NORTHERN MUSCLE (6) SUGGESTED BET:
