RACE TWO
FEEL THE REIGN (5) was aiming up for a hat-trick of victories when he took on a stronger race at AP and from gate 6 was closing out hard after being snagged back in the early stages. He finished best of the rest last start when 3m from GOODTIME STRIDE over the 2138m and this looks within reach. BROADWATER (7) will need his share of luck in the run here as he looks set to be buried away on the pegs and that is probably not his best pattern. Working hard in the run last start he kept grinding away to get within a nose of the winner. He will be probing for the openings and has place claims. IM NORMA JEAN (8) was a winner over the 1780m trip here 2 starts back when able to find the front from gate 2 and dictate terms. Her latest run was a sound effort and she has claims in this line-up. WAIKARI FIRE (2) makes his Qld debut for Jack Butler after a last start flop that saw him banished to the trials. Earning a ticket back to the races, he can look to find a forward position and is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: FEEL THE REIGN (5), BROADWATER (7), IM NORMA JEAN (8), WAIKARI FIRE (2) SUGGESTED BET: FEEL THE REIGN (5) to win
RACE THREE JACKS GAMBIT (2) is approaching 18 months since he last scored victory, however his past few starts have been encouraging including last start when doing his hare of work. In 7 starts since returning from a break, this will be the best alley he has seen and he can look to take his chances to cash-in. SNAKES N LADDERS (8) was hitting the line in good order over the 2138m trip last start at AP and was able to get within 1.5m of the leader and winner MAHALO. From this gate he can follow through in the early stages to find position and be ready to issue a closing challenge in an open event. MIRACLESDOAPPEN (7) will need a minor miracle to sight an opening as she looks set to be locked away. Run-down in the closing stages last start she has place claims if able to sight track in time. REAL KNUCKY (9) found the pegs last start from gate 2 and was looking to take them all the way when grabbed in the closing stages by GOODTIME STRIDE. With even luck in transit he can feature.
SELECTIONS: JACKS GAMBIT (2), SNAKES N LADDERS (8), MIRACLESDOAPPEN (7), REAL KNUCKY (9) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE FOUR
THE GOLDEN CROSS (7) will be 2nd up in Qld and will take good benefit from his 1st appearance when looking for space in a qualifier. Buried on the pegs in that the effort was sound when hitting the line in good order. With factors working in his favour he can be coiled and ready to strike. MAGOOGAN (1) will be fitter following 2 runs back from a break with the latest when not having the greatest of luck in the run behind GOD SAKE. He found them a bit sharp when 1st-up but back to the triangle and from an improved gate he can look to dictate and will be fighting hard. DRIVE THE DREAM (3) went looking for the pegs from gate 3 last start in a band 5 event and with the cosy trip was closing out hard along the inside to grab the bronze. She won’t be far away. RORY MACH (4) never had any luck when probing for open space when taking on claiming company last start. He can snag back to the pegs here and looking for luck will be swooping late.
SELECTIONS: THE GOLDEN CROSS (7), MAGOOGAN (1), DRIVE THE DREAM (3), RORY MACH (4) SUGGESTED BET: THE GOLDEN CROSS (7) to win
RACE FIVE
BUKTHSYSTEM (2) wasn’t suited when forced to work hard in the run facing the breeze last start and the effort told when he faded out. That followed a string of wide and 2nd line gates where he was either working hard or too far back. With an improved alley here he can look to capitalise. TAKITIMU EXPRESS (7) will be 2nd up in Aus following his debut at Marburg last time out. He dropped in behind the leader with 1 lap left to run before angling out to take a shot in the stretch but was unable to reel in the winner. Fitter from the outing if he can sight a gap he can challenge. ROYAL TAZ (5) placed in successive starts following a spell including when beaten a neck 1st up when looking to lead throughout. His latest effort from gate 7 over the 2138m trip was sound and he is in the mix. MODERN TOUGHT (8) has placed her past 2 starts with the latest 2nd a top effort when working home wide out in the closing stages. She can follow through early and won’t be far away in this. SELECTIONS: BUKTHSYSTEM (2), TAKITIMU EXPRESS (7), ROYAL TAZ (5), MODERN TOUGHT (8) SUGGESTED BET: BUKTHSYSTEM (2) to win
RACE SIX
CONTRARY COURAGE (8) found a suitable target here 2 starts back and from gate 3 was sent to the post in red figures. Justifying the quote she went straight to the front and was never in danger to score a comfortable win. Back to this grade after finding them too slick at AP last start looks ideal. FLASHING GOOD TIME (2) hasn’t had much luck with barriers in recent starts that has seen her either working early or being too far back to work into the contest. Her run here 4 starts back was a nice effort after a cosy trip on the pegs and with the speed to have an early look she can feature. BLUE EYED CREATION (6) has no favours from this gate but should appreciate this class of opponent. Freshened since his latest start when 2nd-up from a break, this type of race is within reach. TASCOTT LADY (7) has placed at her past 3 in succession and hasn’t been far away in the process. She worked hard in the breeze last start at Marburg when fighting on for 2nd. She will be looking for the gaps. SELECTIONS: CONTRARY COURAGE (8), FLASHING GOOD TIME (2), BLUE EYED CREATION (6), TASCOTT LADY (7) SUGGESTED BET: CONTRARY COURAGE (8) to win
RACE SEVEN
TELL THE FUTURE (8) was 1st up from a spell when looking to take them all the way here over the 1780m trip from gate 2. Setting a steady tempo her condition faded to see her 3m from the winner STEVIE DEE. Not suited when working in the run her past 2, she looks to get every chance in this. GRINYDONTCHA (6) lands a sticky gate but looks to enjoy this opposition after meeting stronger types in recent outings. Too far back from gate 5 at AP last start, her run here 2 starts back was a tidy effort behind IM NORMA JEAN and with even luck in transit she will be in the mix. BERTILS DELIGHT (1) will be 1st up since a stable switch to join the John Kerr barn. Sent for a break following her last run back in Aug, she has been meeting some tougher tasks and from the gate can land a minor. PRIVATE JUJON (7) will enjoy a cosy run in transit here and can look to issue a closing shot when the gaps appear. Getting back to Redcliffe after his past 2 at AP will also help his cause.
SELECTIONS: TELL THE FUTURE (8), GRINYDONTCHA (6), BERTILS DELIGHT (1), PRIVATE JUJON (7) SUGGESTED BET: TELL THE FUTURE (8) to win
RACE EIGHT
MARTHAS VINEYARD (6) is slowly starting to put it together and last start was able to get around without making an error after facing the breeze. Her run here over the 1780m 3 starts back was a nice effort under the circumstances and if she can stay out of trouble, this is a winnable race. WHATA STRIDE (4) settled in the pocket trail here 3 starts back and held on for the bronze behind CONTRARY COURAGE. Not suited from inside the 2nd line at Marburg 2 starts back she found the AP mile just out of reach last start. Back to the triangle suits and she can go close here. TORQUE TO THE MAX (1) was buried away in the run last start after angling to the pegs for a cosy trip and she couldn’t eat into the margin. Her past 2 have been from the 2nd line and returning to the front can be sharper here. KID CALVERT (8) will move to inside the 2nd line with the early scratching and from there should enjoy a great trip. Gunned down after looking to lead all the way at Marburg last start, he has rough place claims.
SELECTIONS: MARTHAS VINEYARD (6), WHATA STRIDE (4), TORQUE TO THE MAX (1), KID CALVERT (8) SUGGESTED BET: MARTHAS VINEYARD (6) to win
