Wu Gok enjoyed a lovely ride in transit under Michael Cahill improving his record on heavy ground to four wins from seven starts in the Benchmark 90 over 2200 metres for Chris Waller.

Waller stable Assistant Trainer Paul Shailer said Cahill gave the stayer a ten out of ten ride inching him closer to the leaders before taking over at the 300.

"I thought he put the writing on the wall with the way he finished off last start under sixty kilos, still hitting the line strong," Shailer said.

"With the big weight drop (6kg) we expected him to run a race today, but Cahill gave him everychance stayind handy before going for home."

"I'll talk to Chris (Waller) about what we do with him in the Winter Carnival, if we keep getting wet tracks we'll be happy."

Two-Year-Old Plate 1200m

Gem of Scotland has maintained her unbeaten record romping home by six and a quarter lengths in the Two-Year-Old Plate over the 1200 metres at Doomben.

The filly settled one out and one back off a strong speed set by favourite Howwondeffullifesis who skipped clear at the turn only to get windburn from Gem of Scotland at the 200.

Trainer Rex Lipp said it was a satifying result, the filly showing some versatility, but was tight lipped where we might see her next.

"Very happy with the win it ticks a lot of boxes, we know she can be ridden off speed and can handle the wet," Lipp said.

"I'm cautious to push on with her after three big runs this prep, we'll sit down and re-access when she cools off, but the QTIS races are always a lure."

Hoop Jimmy Orman said despite some pre-race antics the unbeaten filly made an easy kill.

"She was very keen today, jumping around behind the barriers and keen to get on with, but once we found our spot she relaxed nicely and put them away easily," he said.

PEACHESTER LODGE 2YO Plate 1200m

One Metro Win Handicap 1110 Metres

1st - Meet Mr. Taylor - Kelly Schweida - Mark Du Plessis

2nd - I've Gotta Nel - Barry Lockwood - Brad Stewart

Meet Mr. Taylor returned from his short spell in brilliant fashion, bolting home by six lengths in the One Metro Win Handicap for Kelly Schweida.

The four year old gelding has been lightly raced, but has turned heads when he's taken to the track today's win making it six from seven starts in his career.

Schweida said the gelding did well to overcome his draw and was happy to know he could handle the wet.

"He hasn't drawn wide in his career, so we knew it would probably be a bit of a different role, where he'd be sitting outside the leader rather than taking it up," Schweida said.

"His bloodlines (Turffontein/Victim of Choice) said he would handle the wet and he's shown that's something he's inherited today."

"Winning today opens up plenty of Winter Carnival options for him, I've just got to figure out the best path for him to some Black Type races."

OSCAR OSCAR SALONS One Metro Win Handicap 1110m

Benchmark 75 Handicap 1615 Metres

1st - The Candy Man - Barry Baldwin - Michael Cahill

2nd - Borazon - Chris Waller - Jeff Lloyd

3rd - Ponytales - Tony Gollan - Brad Stewart

Winning form is good form for Barry Baldwin's The Candy Man, who found a way to get the money in the Benchmark 75 over 1615 metres, getting well back in the run before in form hoop Michael Cahill lifted him just in time.

The win made it two for two in the prep for The Candy Man and Baldwin has eyes on a big Winter campaign.

"I've always had a big opinion of this horse, it's taken him a while to get it right between the ears, but it's nice to plan a few races for him now," Baldwin said.

"He seems to race a bit better off the speed, his next run will be over the 1800 at The Gold Coast and then on to the 2000 so I wasn't too concerned to see him get back and hit the line like that."

The win was the sixth of the week for a humbl Michael Cahill who gave the horse all the credit for getting it done.

"I didn't expect to be that far back, because we were behind a fair few horses in the run I had to be patient and take the gaps as they came, but when you're in the form and can handle the track like him I wasn't panicking," Cahill said.

"He was travelling really well at the two hundred and I thought we were going to run away with it, but Waller's horse kicked up inside to make it a close go."

"He was doing his best work late, I can't see the jump in trip being an issue."

BIG DIFFERENCE CONSULTING BenchMark 75 Handicap 1615m

Listed Aquis Tails Stakes 1615 Metres

1st - Hallelujah Boy - Kris Lees - Matthew McGillivray

2nd - Cool Chap - Robert Heathcote - Jeff Lloyd

3rd - Fit For Purpose - Liam Birchley - Sean Cormack

Matthew McGillivray executed trainer Kris Lees pre-race plan to perfection in the Listed Aquis Tails Stakes, getting a cheap lead where he dropped anchor and made in into a successful sprint home for the noted wet tracker.

Stable rep Mel Eggelston said it was always the plan to take it up and was confident the gelding would get through the ground.

"I had a chat with Kris this morning and we didn't think there was much speed in the race, so we took the chance to control the race with 54 kilos to the turn and try to skip away, which he did," Eggelston said.

"I'm rapt they got the race in, he loves the wet where as some of the others looked a bit patchy on it."

"Kris and Australian Bloodstock will make the final decision, but he's started his prep brilliantly and should find some suitable races in the coming months."

1st - Mr Marbellouz - Kevin Kemp - Baylee Nothdurft

2nd - Sony Legend - Brian Smith - Robbie Fradd

3rd - No Annamossity - Robert Heathcote - Sean Cormack

Mr Marbellouz has lived up to his short quote in the Ascot Handicap, getting there just in time for Kevin Kemp and rising hoop Baylee Nothdurft who claimed his first listed win.

Kemp said the gelding hadn't run up to his potential in his last two starts, The Goldmarket and Weetwood Handicap, but was back to his best at a track he's enjoyed plenty of success.

"His last two runs have been a bit disappointing, but lovely to win a Listed race here at Doomben, where he has a real affinity for the track," Kemp said.

"The ride was dynamite one out and one back, we thought if he didn't get an easy lead that's where we wanted to be and Baylee did the rest, he's a superstar on the way up."

"We'll take him home and have a look at him, but I'd love to run him in one of the Carnival races here maybe the Chief De Beers."

Spirit of Boom Listed Mick Dittman Plate 1110 Metres

1st - Plague Stone - James Cummings - Larry Cassidy

2nd - Vega One - Tony Gollan - Brad Stewart

3rd - Spirit's Choice - Matt Kropp - Matthew McGillivray

DSC6414.JPG

Plague Stone has made an impressive Queensland debut, peeling off heels to get the better of Matt Kropp's Spirit's Choice to win the Listed Mick Dittman Plate.

The gelding was Stakes placed first up at Caulfield last prep and went one better in getting some Black Type form first up in Queensland.

Stable representative Nacim Dilmi said the gelding did everything right and would head home tomorrow before returning for a crack at The Gold Coast Guineas in two weeks time.

"He looked to get away a little awkwardly, which saw him land a bit further back then we expected," Dilmi said.

"Larry (Cassidy) did a great job to get him off the rail and into clear running at the top of the straight and he handled the wet, which we weren't sure about."

"We'll head home and have a talk to James (Cummings), but he'll be back for the Gold Coast Guineas and we'll see after that."
