Trainer Desleigh Forster is hoping Cabalo Escuro can be her latest galloper to use Beaudesert as a springboard to greater success when the filly lines up in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap on Wednesday.
The careers of the Forster-trained Too Good To Refuse and I’m Belucci had their beginnings when Forster took her former stars to Beaudesert.
Too Good To Refuse won a Beaudesert maiden in 2015 before going on to finish second in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick that year and third in the Queensland Derby the following year.
Forster also dispatched I’m Belucci to Beaudesert early in his career where he won a Maiden in 2015 before going on to place in the Group 1 Queensland Derby in 2016.
Forster has a small stable in work at Eagle Farm and is still on a high after claiming the Group 3 George Moore Stakes with Chapter And Verse at Doomben on Saturday.
She’s had great success from her boutique stable with horses of the calibre of Adebisi, Too Good To Refuse, I’m Belucci and the ill-fated Cyclinder Beach.
Cabalo Escuro may not be in the same class as her former stars at the moment but Forster is hopeful the filly can win in better company down the track.
“She’s a good filly,” Forster said.
“I think she’s got a good chance again but she’s got a tricky gate.
“I like taking my horses to Beaudesert as it’s a good track and every horse gets its chance.”
Cabalo Escuro is a daughter of multiple Group 1 winner All Too Hard, who is a half-sister to former champion Black Caviar.
Forster rated Cabalo Escuro high enough to test her in the Listed Dalrello Stakes at Eagle Farm in her debut in April.
She was far from disgraced finishing seventh, less than six lengths away, before she won her maiden at her next start at the Gold Coast in May.
Forster gave her another chance at Listed level in the Bill Carter Stakes at her third start in May when she finished 10th, less than six lengths from the Tony Gollan-trained winner Perudo.
After returning from a spell, Cabalo Escuro finished just behind the placegetters at Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast before she led all the way for a near five length win in a Class One Handicap in her only Beaudesert start.
