RACE TWO
MISTER DECORUM (2) secured the pocket trail from inside the 2nd line over the Redcliffe sprint trip last start when holding on for the silver behind WHATA CHALLENGE. Forging a top record here at the track where he has been placed on 3 occasions and won twice in 5 outings, he can roll the sleeves if required and can grind it out here. ELZBOY (1) should find this easier than recent outings and will also appreciate the return to his ‘home’ track where he performs well. Forced to work hard in the run last start, he faded under the load behind TIMELESS APPEAL. Needing to hustle in the early stages, he can challenge. RISKY BUZINESS (3) was in for the fight when outside the leader from the stand start in a Goldstrike heat and was game when 4m from the winner, with that position not really his style. He can look to fire an early shot from this gate and be thereabouts. DARBY BRIGHTS (7) was buried 3 back against the poles last start and chased hard to grab the bronze behind subsequent winner LETHAL STAR. With the right trail through, she has podium claims once again.
SELECTIONS: MISTER DECORUM (2), ELZBOY (1), RISKY BUZINESS (3), DARBY BRIGHTS (7) SUGGESTED BET: MISTER DECORUM (2) to win
RACE THREE
Lining up for his 4th appearance here at Marburg, SOMEHOWSOMEWAY (5) has placed in all 3 previous outings. Caught wide looking for position last start at AP, the effort was sound under the circumstances after being forced to retreat. Beaten by gate 6 at Redcliffe the start prior, the gate stings again, but he might just be able to pinch this. SIR BUSLKI (8) doesn’t have any favours from the 2nd line, yet with the right slice of luck in transit, shapes as a major player in this line-up. Sent forward here last start from gate 4, he was able to find space to drop into the trail, but then didn’t see space in the stretch to challenge. Backing up from AP Thursday, he can challenge. PRETTYCOMPACT (7) broke a long run of outs at Redcliffe 2 starts back when able to find the front and hold on for an all-the-way victory. Not suited last time from a wide gate, he has podium claims. THE LAST STARFIRE (4) landed behind the leader from inside the 2nd line last start in a race much stronger than this. That followed a down the line effort behind TRUE STEPPER and he is a place hope.
SELECTIONS: SOMEHOWSOMEWAY (5), SIR BUSLKI (8), PRETTYCOMPACT (7), THE LAST STARFIRE (4) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE FOUR SCHEU CREEK (2) will take good benefit from his latest appearance when returning from a break and producing a tidy effort from a 2nd line gate. Working home nicely to be mid-field behind GINGER MICKY, his 3rd behind JUSTA DALE prior to going for a break was a nice effort. With a smart record here on the track, he can look to capitalise. JINGLES BROMAC (7) put it together last start when sent forward from gate 6 to park outside the leader over the Redcliffe 2040m. Forced to grind it out, he was in for the fight to score by an eyelash. His run the start prior was a big effort after making a meal of the start before chasing hard. He is in the fight here. SWEET JASMINE (3) sat back in the pack last start from the 2nd line over the Redcliffe 2040m prior to finishing with a strong sprint to arrive for a smart win. Missing a cheque just once this campaign where she was still within 3m of the winner, she is a danger here. WHERES TASCOTT (1) raced in the pocket trail over the AP mile 2 starts back when holding on for the silver behind ALBION ARK. Runner-up in both runs prior to that, she hit then line nicely last start and from the gate has claims.
SELECTIONS: SCHEU CREEK (2), JINGLES BROMAC (7), SWEET JASMINE (3), WHERES TASCOTT (1) SUGGESTED BET: SCHEU CREEK (2) to win
RACE FIVE
JEWEL OF PEAK (1) is still searching for her 1st win the prep and looks to have found the ideal conditions to get on the board. Her last win came here at Marburg when setting a new track record over this trip. Despite some poor numbers, there have been excuses and against this line-up she can look to take control and keep them chasing. TEARAWAY DIAMOND (7) should appreciate this class of opponent after meeting stronger opponents in recent starts. Too far back from a 2nd line gate last start at AP behind MISS RUBY SUNSHINE, he was luckless the start prior behind that same filly. Fitter following 2 runs back, he is the danger. JILLIBY GIZMO (6) was forced to do it the tough way on Wed at Redcliffe over the 2040m when fading under the pressure. That followed consecutive 3rd placed returns and with an easy trip here, can be probing for openings. WILLS (8) made a mess of the start last time out from the tapes in a Goldstrike heat. Things hadn’t really gone his way at his previous 2 starts and with a slice of luck he can chime in against these.
SELECTIONS: JEWEL OF PEAK (1), TEARAWAY DIAMOND (7), JILLIBY GIZMO (6), WILLS (8) SUGGESTED BET: JEWEL OF PEAK (1) to win
RACE SIX ALI DOWNUNDER (4) will line up for his 3rd start in 10 days after narrowly missing the final of this series. 2nd up in the heats, he was 3m from the winner TARGARYEN HANNOVER when closing in nice style in a strong closing 800m. Beaten a whisker at Redcliffe mid-week, he looks to get his chance in this line-up. MISS CATALINA (7) skipped for a few strides at release in the heat but was able to find the position behind the leader for the remainder of the trip. Locked away and probing for a gap that didn’t open, she was a hard-held 3rd. Backing up from a sound 3rd on Wed night, she can feature despite the 20m. SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (9) has the 30m impost to negotiate, yet with even luck in transit might just appreciate this grade. 3rd over the AP mile 3 starts back when 9m in arrears, he can chime in here. MANOFLISA (3) held on for the bronze in his heat after securing the pocket trail. Not too far away in successive Redcliffe starts prior to that, he can find early position from the front tape to feature in the exotics.
SELECTIONS: ALI DOWNUNDER (4), MISS CATALINA (7), SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (9), MANOFLISA (3) SUGGESTED BET: ALI DOWNUNDER (4) to win
RACE SEVEN
After 4 competitive heats were conducted 10 days ago where all horse were off equal marks, the 3rd Goldstrike Final will take place where handicaps match the NR assessment. Fitter after 2 runs back from a break, TOP FLIGHT CRUIZE (4) stepped like a veteran at his debut from the tapes and once in front dictated to suit. From the 20m tape he can get forward early and with a smart record here on the track, land the big win. GHOST GUM (1) was a little scratchy away in the heat but safely enough that he was able to punch through to protect the lead. Looking to stack them up, he just rolled off enough to allow the winner to sneak through along the inside to score. With the handy advantage at the handicaps, he will be right in this. OUR DELIGHT (7) landed the perfect position in her heat and when finding clear space had enough sprint to arrive for a head margin. That was her 1st look at both the track and the tapes and securing the right cart home here can feature. IMA REGAL JET (3) was buried away in his heat and when he did see open space was able to hit the line in nice style to grab 2nd and sneak into the final. Taking a lead with trainer Lola Weidemann opting to partner this fellow of her 3 runners, he is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: TOP FLIGHT CRUIZE (4), GHOST GUM (1), OUR DELIGHT (7), IMA REGAL JET (3) SUGGESTED BET: TOP FLIGHT CRUIZE (4) to win
