The 2020 TAB Queensland Summer Harness Racing Carnival will commence tomorrow night (14/11) with the opening round heats of the Group 2 DJA Trotting Championship.
In total, 11 Group races will be staged across the Summer Carnival, including the $175,000 Blacks A Fake - Queensland’s only Grand Circuit event for pacers – with some of the nation’s biggest stars descending on Albion Park and Redcliffe throughout November and December.
In a scintillating start to the campaign, three heats of the DJA Trotting Championship will be held at Albion Park ahead of the Final on November 28.
Among those lining up will be Team Raboki’s Wee Man Trouble, who proved too strong for his challengers this time last year.
With the six-year-old gelding back to defend his title, trainer Shannon Price, who entrusted Wee Man Trouble with Grant Dixon in 2019, said she was hoping her star trotter could go back-to-back.
“It would be great if he could defend it,” Price said.
“Last year I just played owner.
“I was very happy with his run last week after a seven-week break…but you need a little bit of luck.”
On the same card, the inaugural NAIDOC Celebration Pace will take place as the Queensland racing industry looks to strengthen its relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Over the course of the Summer Carnival, more than $1 million in stakes will be up for grabs with highlights including:
- November 28 - The Group 3 Be Good Johnny Sprint;
- December 5 - The Group 2 Queensland Cup; and
- December 12 - The Group 1 TAB Blacks A Fake.
In addition to the Group events, Redcliffe Harness Racing Club will round out the Summer Carnival, with the open class Christmas Cup to be joined by feature races for both two and three-year-olds.
