QTIS prize money lures Master Jamie to Gold Coast

Trainer Graeme Green is looking for an encore performance from Master Jamie at Rockhampton on Friday after his star sprinter redeemed himself with his return to winning form last start.

Master Jamie lumped a massive 62.5kgs with the claim for apprentice Dan McGillivray when he registered his first win in six starts this campaign in his all the way win a 1300-metre Open at Callaghan Park last month.

It was the first win for the five-year-old since he won the Cleveland Bay Handicap in Townsville last August.

Master Jamie’s win has incurred a further one-kilo penalty taking his weight to massive 66.5kgs in the Open Handicap over 1300 metres.

However, McGillivray has retained apprentice Dan McGillivray giving the five-year-old some weight relief with his three-kilogram claim.

Green plans to take Master Jamie back south after his latest assignment to target the $150,000 Gold Jewel at the Gold Coast on March 19.

The Gold Jewel will be run over 1400 metres and is restricted to QTIS registered horses.

Green has never been disappointed with Master Jamie’s performances under big weights this campaign and is hopeful the Poet’s Voice gelding can notch up win number 16 at his 36th start.

“His last win was good and he had a bit up his sleeve,” Green said.

“He’s up to more suitable distances now and I’m hoping he can stretch out to 1600 metres.

“The Rocky Cup is over 1600 metres and that will be his goal during the winter.”

Green also will saddle up Kotabharu in the Class 3 Plate and Fleetingly in the Class 1 Handicap.

Kotabharu has finished second in three starts this campaign including her latest effort behind Bold Pedro in a 1500-metre Class 3 at Rockhampton on January 27.

In contrast, Fleetingly has failed to place in four starts this preparation including a last start sixth behind Bold Pedro and Kotabharu.

“Kotabharu has been racing very well and should be very competitive again,” he said.

“Fleetingly has been looking for a lot longer but unfortunately there’s no suitable distance races for her here.”
