The Jedda Cutlack-trained Mitchell Street has been withdrawn from Friday’s Group 3 Rockhampton Cup Final, paving the way for another locally trained runner to sneak into the field.
Mitchell Street was one of the main fancies ($3.60) with TAB to take the $60,000 feature after he finished second to Milligan in last Friday’s fastest heat.
But, Cutlack has reported the recent Group 1 Golden Easter Egg finalist has been withdrawn due to a hock injury.
Cutlack said she expects Mitchell Street – who turns four on June 1 – to be sidelined for six weeks.
Cutlack said the timing couldn’t be worse for Mitchell Street, who she admits is getting a little long in the tooth.
“We will try (to get him back)”, she said.
“There are a few better money short course races in the not too distant future, but if he has any issues with it we won’t push him.
“He’s done enough. It’s just a shame, he’d really come into form again at this late stage (of his career) and it happens now.”
The scratching has allowed first emergency Canary Wharf to take his place as one of three local runners to contest the Cup.
The Dallas Beckett-trained dog will exit box four and joins wild card entrant Zip Stream (Box 5) and Informality (Box 6) in their quest to keep the $40,000 first prize in the Beef Capital.
