RACE ONE
Sweating on holding the leaders back position and then straightening with momentum, ROSES ARE SWEET (8) is up to claiming a race like this. Her last win was in mares’ company when darting up the passing lane to score and her recent form is good enough to capitalise. PLAYA BLANCA (9) tackled open mares’ company last start and found them a bit too slippery. Just 5m away via the passing lane here two starts back, she has fence or running line options from this gate and with the right trip is up to issuing a challenge. MORESCO (1) backs up from Tues where she took cover from this alley and chased for the bronze behind ELOUISA DALE. With the speed to control available options, she can hit the bboard again. BETTORS HOPE (5) was snagged off the arm last start from gate 7 to settle rearward and found the line in good order. Securing cheap position will be key to his chances of chiming in. SELECTIONS: ROSES ARE SWEET (8), PLAYA BLANCA (9), MORESCO (1), BETTORS HOPE (5) SUGGESTED BET: ROSES ARE SWEET (8) to win
RACE TWO With some slick moves out of the machine, ROCKNROLL TIMES (3) can dart across to light the lamps here and finds a suitable set up to take them all the way. A beaten fav last start, he took them all the way here two runs back in sharp time and can look for the repeat. CATSEYE BEACH (8) resumes from a spell after his last appearance back in October after a three start NSW campaign netted a placing behind the smart MAHOMES. With a sharp trial in preparation for the return, he looks set to be snookered here but is up to the task if the gap arrives in time. APOLLO DREAMZ (3) stuck to the inside and held on for the bronze in The Hayden last start after copping the outside second line in the South East Derby. From this gate he is in the fight. WINDY HILL WALLY (1) eased from gate 5 last time out at Redcliffe and was trying to make late ground when 9m from the flying ZOOM PARTY. Mapping for a soft trip, he can grab a minor here. SELECTIONS: ROCKNROLL TIMES (3), CATSEYE BEACH (8), APOLLO DREAMZ (3), WINDY HILL WALLY (1) SUGGESTED BET: ROCKNROLL TIMES (3) to win
RACE THREE Snaring the inside alley in the Derby Consolation and securing the soft run in transit behind the fav and eventual winner NEPTUNE, QUEENSLANDER (7) did not see the 13 furlongs out when finishing midfield and 9m astern of the winner. The fuse might just be lit here to control it in front. THE VICAR OF DIBLEY (10) tackled the Oaks consolation last week and after settling outside the leader early, went rough with a lap to travel and was out three wide before easing again for position. A tough winner here three starts back, she can be sent forward if needed to issue the challenge. SIR BOSTON (5) was sent around them from the second line at Redcliffe last time out and was able to grind out the victory. With not much barrier luck in recent starts, he is not out of this. RACE FOUR
This looks a tough 2YO race to dissect with several winning chances and varying mapping scenarios that could eventuate. ROCKON ROCKY (8) was too strong out in front last start in leading throughout from gate 1. He will need some favours in the run here but can build off the last start. WHATA LEGACY (6) started from gate 5 last time out where he was sent straight to the front and was never headed, holding them off with a 3m margin at big odds. The gate dents the hopes but building some confidence from opening the account can see him challenge. MAJORITA JUJON (2) eased to find position on the poles last start in the APG Final when chasing to finish 10m from the winner BALBOA ROCK. She can be in a forward position here to chime in. SKYGIRL (3) has placed at her past three in succession, the latest against older horses where she sat parked from gate 5 at Redcliffe. With an improved gate, she can get forward to feature. SELECTIONS: ROCKON ROCKY (8), WHATA LEGACY (6), MAJORITA JUJON (2), SKYGIRL (3) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE FIVE Edging closer to a drought breaking victory after placings at his past four in succession, BORSELLINO (9) might have found the right set up here. Chasing for the bronze behind subsequent winner ARCHILLES last start, he rattled home here two back for the silver and can descend on them here. ODINS BLACK CROWS (10) pressed on with it last start on The Triangle to take control and once in front was never in danger with 8m to spare on the wire. Collared in front by ARCHILLES here two starts back, the gate makes it tough, but he is racing well enough to throw down the challenge. ROCKY LEIGH (5) tried to lead throughout over the 2040 last start at Redcliffe when sent out deep into the red but could not see it out. Runner-up here three back, he can grab some minor money. MISTER WOODPORT (4) started from inside the second line last time out and was soon locked away in finishing midfield. Just a neck away two starts back, he can roll forward to feature. SELECTIONS: BORSELLINO (9), ODINS BLACK CROWS (10), ROCKY LEIGH (5), MISTER WOODPORT (4) SUGGESTED BET: BORSELLINO (9) to win
RACE SIX Resuming after a 12-month lay-off, BONNY MY BOY (10) caught the eye first up when charging home wide off the track to be 3m from the winner. Taken to Redcliffe second up, he had the race at his mercy and just needed to go by, but broke gait. Huge in defeat after resetting, he can get it right. BROOKFIELDDS BEAUTY (5) is a 3YO filly on debut for Shane Fraser that ranks as a half to his other smart performers BANGKOK DEEJAY and MANILAY PLAYBOY. Given plenty of education at the trials, her latest hit out was some smart work, and she can challenge at her first attempt. THE TAX EVADER (6) is a 2YO gelding on debut against the older horses in the mixed maiden and is a half to the handy THE TAX CULLECTOR. He stays under notice first up. HAPPY GO LINCY (9) is a two-start 3YO that makes his first race appearance in Aus. With a sound trial in readiness for this assignment, he can be chiming in. RACE SEVEN CAPTIVANTE (2) opened her account last start when holding the front from gate 1 and taking them all the way with a smart last 800. Starting deep in the red for that assignment, she comes up with the gate and fitness advantage over some of these which gives her the chance to go again. ROLL WITH SAM (6) was a winner on debut as a 2YO over 12 months ago but has not been seen since. With four trials to get some miles and further experience under the belt, the latest hit out was a sharp piece of work when 3m from the winner in a 1.54.3 mile. NIKI BEACH (7) was first up from a long break last time out where he could not go on with it and finished a distanced last. With a sharp trial to get the prep back on track, the gate hurts. GEM PUNTER PETE (8) is a 2YO tackling the older company here but with second line options and a tidy record where he has missed the money once in five starts, he is up to the task at hand here. RACE EIGHT Runner-up in three of his past five starts, THE HARRIS HAWK (7) cops the outside paint, yet he still looks to get every chance to cash in. 2m from the winner on Monday night at Redcliffe, he was just a neck away two starts back. Although costly in recent outings, he can recoup the losses here. HEAVENLY WISDOM (8) only needs to see the gap at the right time, and she can throw down the challenge. Buried last start at Redcliffe and making a late raid to be 4m from the winner, she will be probing for the gap and if it arrives with momentum, she will be hard to stop. KOTARE ELITE (1) is resuming from a spell and from this gate looks the leader. If able to pinch a panel or three in front, she can be there at the finish. MOLLIDOR (9) is approaching 18 months since her last victory but appears have podium claims in this contest. With the right trip, she can chime in.
