Racing Queensland is throwing its support behind the unsung heroes of the industry through its new Cheer A Volunteer initiative.
Cheer A Volunteer – sponsored by Neil Mansell Transport & Mittys – is a new awards program designed specifically to recognise those behind the scenes within the industry.
Clubs are encouraged to nominate their valued volunteers, with monthly awards including trophies, as well as a set of bibs and cloths for the nominating club on offer.
State-wide, there are more than 8,300 volunteers who make an invaluable contribution to the industry, providing their time and expertise to sustain Queensland’s three codes of racing.
Their involvement varies, from behind-the-scenes promotions, fundraising and maintaining records to more familiar race day roles such as barrier attendants, betting supervisors and clerks of the course.
RQ CEO Jason Scott said he is excited to see ongoing recognition for the tireless work our volunteers carry out across the state.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the racing industry and play a crucial role in the ongoing success and viability of the sport across the state, particularly in our regional and rural areas,” he said.
“The Cheer A Volunteer initiative ensures that we can honour and recognise these efforts, across all three codes, all year round.
“As an organisation, we’re extremely grateful for the cross-section of volunteers who sustain our industry from Birdsville to Cooktown and everywhere in between.”
