The Ladbrokes Protostar is taking shape with details of the ballot for Australasia’s richest 2YO harness racing event revealed.
The second running of the $500,000 event will take centre stage as the marquee race on July 12, 2025, alongside the Inter Dominion’s second round of heats.
Exclusively for two-year-olds, the Protostar will be run over 1660 metres at The Creek throughout the nation’s premier winter carnival, the Queensland Constellations.
The field will be restricted to 10 starters with nine slots up for grabs.
Ladbrokes, as the race sponsor, has will take one slot.
With 15 applications received, the ballot for the remaining nine positions in the race will be held at Albion Park on Tuesday, January 7 from 3pm.
The ballot will be completed in two parts.
Firstly, the five Queensland-based applicants draw for three slots.
Secondly, the other 10 applicants will enter the ballot box - joining the two unsuccessful Queensland applicants - to draw the final six slots.
Successful slot applicants will then turn their attention to selecting a horse for the two-year-old feature.
The ballot will be live streamed on RaceQ and The Creek’s Facebook pages.
The Queensland applicants for slots are: Solid Earth, Daren Garrard Ownership Group, Jamie Durnberger-Smith, GSM Racing and Anthony Vugec.
