QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BARCALDINE TURF CLUB SATURDAY 4th MAY 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S Coulthard Stewards – T Hudson, E Suli, K McCracken SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL Stewards accepted the explanation for the late rider declaration of rider from trainer C Austin for ROSAIRE.Stewards approved the following overweight:Race 5: ROSAIRE +.50kg Race 1: ROONEY'S RURAL & STOCKCAMP SADDLERY QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000 M The start was delayed when DIWALI LIGHTS refused to be loaded into the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 1:12pm. Trainer K McGovern was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate under race day conditions prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on DIWALI LIGHTS were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:12pm:1st – JUKEBOX LUCY 3c Win & 3c Place2nd – DIZZY DIVINE 3c Place3rd – ENERGISED 5c Place KARBORS – Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 800m when THE SINNER shifter wider to avoid heels of BLERIOT which momentarily shifted in. BLERIOT – Approaching the 800m momentarily shifted in hampering THE SINNER. Jockey T Brummell was advised to show greater care under similar circumstances. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. ZIPPING IRISH - Checked approaching the 800m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey E Bell, rider of JUKEBOX LUCY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in at the point of turn approaching the 800m, resulting in OUR GOLDEN CHERUB ridden by R Faehr being taken inwards. As a result, ZIPPING IRISH was checked and lost ground. Rider E Bell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing midnight 4th of May 2024 up to and including midnight 11th of May 2024. SINNER –Improved onto heels of BLERIOT which shifted in marginally approaching the 800m and taken wider to obtain clear running.Laid in when placed under pressure down the home straight. THE RATTLESNAKE – Slow into stride. Laid in over the concluding stages. ZA HIDDEN DRAGON – Raced wide in the early stages. CHIEF MONDO – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J Rudd reported that his saddle shifted at the top of the home straight. OUR GOLDEN CHERUB – Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m when JUKEBOX LUCY shifted in. Race 2: BARCALDINE WELDING WORKS / RAILWAY HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M BENDOLIRRA – Laid in under pressure down the home straight. COLONEL VON TRAPP – Shifted in on jumping, bumping SHEZAJUKE.Raced wide in the early stages. PARISIAN ROCKSTAR – As Jockey D Graham was unable to make the allocated weight on the mare, Stewards permitted Jockey R Faehr to be substituted as the rider. Jockey D Graham was subsequently fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. ATLANTIC LACE – Jumped awkwardly, losing ground. VERALISE – When questioned on the mare’s performance jockey T Chambers stated that she had noticed an unusual breathing noise and feels the mare would benefit with a tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had a slightly elevated heart rate on recovery and that this may have been attributed to its first race back from a spell. WORTHY'S GIRL – Slow to begin. Laid in over the concluding stages. QUEEN'S ARMS – Raced wide for the majority. Laid out rounding the home turn. SHEZAJUKE – Bumped at the start, as a result was slow into stride. Race 3: NUTRIEN BLACKALL / WESTERN FREIGHT LINK RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP 1200 M DISPUTE – Approaching the 150m was laying in then momentarily shifted in abruptly. ENERGIZED – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure for the majority of the home straight resulting in rider J Missen being unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Schofield was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Trainer T Schofield advised it was her intention to spell the gelding.DUSTINS – Raced wide throughout. ANOTHER TOSSER – Raced wide throughout. Held up for majority of home straight and was unable to be fully tested by its rider. I'M FREE – Raced wide throughout. PARA PARK MAKEUP – Raced wide for the majority. Passing the 150m was restrained and shifted wider after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of ENERGIZED which was hanging in under pressure. HOT CHOCOLATE – A pre-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was experiencing a high resting heart rate. Following the veterinary examination HOT CHOCOLATE was declared a late scratching at 2:09pm on veterinary advice. Trainer C Prow was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on HOT CHOCOLATE were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wagers placed prior to 2:09pm:1st – RED ZORRO 1c Win & 1c Place2nd – BEST SIDE 1c Place3rd – ENERGISED 1c Place Race 4: GBA CONSULTING ENGINEERS CLASS 6 PLATE 1200 M Correct weight was delayed when stewards considered a protest from fourth placed rider apprentice S Zoljan (FIELD OF ROSES) against second placed MAGICAL SLIPPER (C Bayliss) alleging interference near the 100m. After considering the available replays and evidence provided by riders, stewards established that despite the interference occurring stewards could not be satisfied that the degree of that interference warranted altering the placings. The protest was therefore dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings. FIELD OF ROSES – Checked near the 100m after attempting to improve into a narrow run between MAGICAL SLIPPER and the inside running rail. REAL HUSSEY – Slow to begin and slow into stride. Held up for clear running in the home straight from the 350m to the 200m. GALACTIC EXPRESS – Slow to begin, raced wide for the majority. MAGICAL SLIPPER – Momentarily shifted ground near the 100m causing FIELD OF ROSES to be restrained. Race 5:MERV 'DERBS' BALDERSON MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1600 M HERE HE LOOMS – Passing the 1000m was restrained off heels whilst over-racing. Shifted wider at the 800m to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. IMPACTFUL – Slow to begin. FANTWA – Jumped awkwardly. SAINT MARTIN – After returning to the mounting yard the gelding showed signs of mild lameness. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild soreness to the near side hoof area. The veterinarian did not recommend a veterinary clearance was required prior to next start, however recommended a pre-race veterinary examination prior to next start. FLYING ARION – Restrained in the early stages from a wide barrier in an effort to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail then shifted wider at 1100m. ROGER EXPRESS (NZ) – Laid in under pressure down the home straight. DELIUS – Slow to begin. THE LANDING – Race wide throughout. Race 6: PAT OGDEN MEMORIAL TREE OF KNOWLEDGE/OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE - HEAT - OPEN HANDICAP 1600 M JERRY ZANDA – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. BUNGARRIBEE LAD – When questioned on thegelding’s performance jockey B Johnsonstated that the gelding was better suited over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MOTION LEGEND – Restrained off heels shortly after start when over-racing. Post-race trainer R Williams advised the gelding had significant nasal discharge and it was his intention to have blood tests conducted and will report back to stewards with the results. Trainer R Williams was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Slow to begin. PESHWA – Laid in over the concluding stages. CAFFREY (IRE) – Awkwardly placed in restricted racing room rounding the home turn when PESHWA started to weaken. MORICONI – Approaching the 100m, was awkwardly placed on heels when held up for clear running. RANGI TOA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 1200m.
