GENERAL

Due to personal reasons P. Hammersley was not riding at today’s meeting and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: DIGGERS’ CUP CLASS 3 PLATE – 1650M

SKYTASTIC – Overraced in the early stages.

CHEEKYBOI – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, rider J. Taylor, who rode the horse at its previous start, stated that on that occasion the race was over a shorter distance than today’s event and the gelding was not suited by the quick early pace and was unable to take up a forward position, however the horse found the line strongly over the concluding stages. He added that with the step back up in distance today in a smaller field, the gelding was able to take up a forward position and travelled comfortably throughout, which he believed attributed to the improved performance. Trainer G. Cornish agreed with jockey Taylor’s assessment.

TEQUILA SLAMMER – Slow to begin.

Race 2: 2016 BEAUDESERT CUP JUNE 25 MAIDEN H'CAP – 1650M

As R. McMahon failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement due to traffic difficulties, C. Small was substituted as the rider of REGENTS PARK.

ENDLESS DON – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the horse’s disappointing run, rider R. Wiggins was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than that he suggested to connections to experiment with gear changes but felt that the gelding was disappointing. Trainer W. Hulbert agreed with jockey Wiggins’ assessment and advised that it will be the intention to experiment with a gear change for the horse’s next run.

MISHANI SCOUT – Began awkwardly.

CHARMOR – Apprentice J. Oliver was fined $200 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

TE RANGI – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner.

REGENTS PARK – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M

After being kicked by another runner behind the barriers, SUSHI OLE was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1.25 pm on veterinary advice. VOANABA – Slow to begin.

HIDDEN MAFIA – Began awkwardly.

VIDA PLAYER – Fractious in the tie-up stalls, kicked out, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Inconvenienced at the start.

Race 4: BEAUY MUSTER OCTOBER 1 2016 RATINGS BAND 0-55 – 1400M

SUPERIOR SUN – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, trainer N. McCall stated that she felt the gelding was not suited by the pace of the race, however she was pleased with its finishing effort.

BURT – Slow to begin. Tailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ZANY LASS – Began awkwardly.

Race 5: MUMMY’S WISH QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Lockwood for the late declaration of R. McMahon as the rider of MIAMI JETSTREAM.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of the dead-heating runners for 2nd place to view the photo finish print.

CAPTAIN EYCHE – Bumped by another runner at the start and lost ground. Brushed with another runner on two occasions leaving the 200m when inclined to lay in under pressure.

GREGORY – Slow to begin.

BIG BAMBOO – Began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with another runner. Brushed with another runner on two occasions leaving the 100m when inclined to shift out slightly under pressure.

Race 6: QPSIG CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1050M

Trainer T. Crane was fined $100 for failing to declare A. Badger as the rider of AFFRAY by the prescribed time.

Due to a misunderstanding B. Pengelly was declared as the rider of DALTON when R. McMahon had been engaged as the rider of that runner.

The start of this race was delayed when ambulance officers were required to attend to an ill patron.

I AM GROUSE – Competed Saturday 23.4.16 at Gold Coast, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground and continued to race ungenerously for some distance.

SPECTACULAR ROCK – After being slow into stride, then raced wide throughout.

Race 7: RUTHERFORD FARM COUNTRY QUEENSLAND SHOWCASE BM75 H'CAP – 1200M

As L. Rolls was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of NAKANAI. L. Rolls was fined $200.

The start of this race was delayed when ambulance officers were required to attend to an ill patron.

MS BA BELLA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

FIERCELY DEFIANT – Began awkwardly and was then inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start.

SHOW HARMONY – Hampered at the start.

BARONESS ZEENA – Raced wide without cover.

ONE GREY – Began awkwardly.

SONY LEGEND – Held up and unable to improve from leaving the 400m until entering the home straight.

BEAUFORT GYRE – Raced wide throughout.

NAKANAI – Had to be severely checked approaching and passing the winning post to avoid the heels of BARONESS ZEENA, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice S. Lacy, the rider of BARONESS ZEENA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) and her licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 4 May and expire at midnight on Thursday 12 May 2016.

Race 8: RAILWAY HOTEL CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

PUDMARDELS – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RIGHT ADVICE, which shifted in approaching the 1000m. Apprentice L. Londregan, the rider of RIGHT ADVICE, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

MOSPORT – Connections made an application for the horse to be declared a non-runner due to that runner’s barrier gates failing to open simultaneously with all other starters’ barrier gates. After viewing the video, stewards established that the barrier gates were slow to open, resulting in the horse trailing the field for the event. Stewards therefore were of the opinion that MOSPORT had not been afforded a fair start and declared the horse a non-runner. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MOSPORT be refunded, with following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

6 cent in the dollar for the Win #8
7 cent in the dollar for place of winner #8
