GENERAL

As apprentice H. English was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: STAR AGED LIVING MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M

As J. Morris was to be overweight, Beau Appo was substituted as the rider of CHARMOR. J. Morris was fined $100. As Beau Appo failed to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement, D. Hayse was substituted as the rider of the horse.

HIGHWAY QUEEN – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in in the run to the finish.

KAIZARI – Inconvenienced by PROSPECTING shortly after the start. T. Treichel, the rider of PROSPECTING, was advised to exercise more care. Had to be steadied between the 1100m and the 1000m when placed in restricted room between HE’LL BE RIGHT and WIDOWMAKER, which shifted in. Apprentice J. Hodge, the rider of WIDOWMAKER, was reprimanded. Raced wide throughout.

MISS BEAUJOLAIS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped WIDOWMAKER. Upon returning to scale apprentice B. Derbyshire reported that her saddle shifted sideways when the horse was inclined to lay in rounding the home turn, placing her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

WIDOWMAKER – Raced wide throughout. Had to be steadied near the 800m when tightened for room between WIG WAM BAM and RED SAGA, which shifted in. Apprentice S. Fawke, the rider of RED SAG, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

CHARMOR – Bumped at the start. Raced four wide without cover.

HE’LL BE RIGHT – Overraced in the early stages. Had to be steadied from the heels of RED SAGA leaving the 500m.

RED SAGA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

STORMY DEEDS – Had to be checked approaching the 300m when placed in restricted room to the inside of MISS BEAUJOLAIS (B. Derbyshire), which hung in. As apprentice Derbyshire’s saddle had shifted, contributing to this interference, stewards did not believe she was careless in all the circumstances and therefore took no action.

WIG WAM BAM – Had to be steadied from the heels of MISS BEAUJOLAIS near the 600m. Had to be steadied passing the 400m when awkwardly placed at the heels of RED SAGA.

Race 2: BURDETT CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

MOONLIGHT DIAMOND – Raced three wide without cover.

NUSKEE PARKER – When questioned regarding her tactics, apprentice T. Brooker said she was not given any specific instructions, but after jumping well she elected to push forward to clear runners drawn to her inside. App Brooker added that after obtaining the lead she was happy to allow runners on her outside to cross forward of her however, when they failed to do so she was content to hold the lead.

RANI’S DYNASTY – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

VOANABA – Slow to begin.

ZABACI – Blundered on jumping.

Race 3: QUEENSLAND COUNTRY LIVE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when MARKED FOREVER, which became cast in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1.22 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MARKED FOREVER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

17 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
9 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
19 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

WEHRMAN – Bumped at the 150m.

MOSPORT – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Had to alter course and shift in after passing the 200m to avoid heels and obtain clear running and as a consequence made heavy contact with WEHRMAN near the 150m.

BELLARIAT – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

EARL OF FORDYCE – Slow to begin.

MONSCHAPELLE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: REDSOLAR CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M

BIZARRE ROCK – Raced three wide without cover.

LADY DENMAN – Had to be steadied passing the 400m when racing in restricted room to the inside of ALL OUR WIVES, which shifted in slightly.

LAUGH A LITTLE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to hang in under pressure over the concluding stages.

TORPEDO – Had to be steadied approaching the 1000m when tightened for room between OH MY ROCKET and VIV’S VEGAS, which shifted in. Apprentice S. Fawke, the rider of VIV’S VEGAS, was reprimanded.

BEER ‘N’ BARMAID – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and raced wide as a result.

ALL OUR WIVES – Stewards permitted J. Hodge to claim only 2kg of his 3kg claim, as he was a late replacement for the injured Hannah English and there was no other 3kg claiming apprentice available.

SO SURE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: GETTING DIRTY EXCAVATIONS RATINGS BAND 0-55 H'CAP – 1200M

BY EMTEEARE – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Approaching the 50m, became unbalanced when bumped by VANCOUVER STAR, which was taken in by WESTERN BELLE.

CLANGORANDA – Slow into stride and then overraced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running from the 300m to the 100m and then bumped BY EMTEEARE near the 50m.

MEMPHIS GIRL – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, trainer T. Whittington expressed his disappointment, notwithstanding the fact that the filly was forced to race wide throughout the event. Mr Whittington indicated that the filly would now be retired from his stable. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

VANCOUVER STAR – Raced four wide without cover. Had to be steadied near the 50m when tightened for room between BY EMTEEARE and WESTERN BELLE, which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice B. Ainsworth, the rider of WESTERN BELLE, was advised to straighten her mounts when shifting ground in future.

DIVA DREAMER – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied at the 100m when placed at the heels of WESTERN BELLE, which shifted in. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that her saddle shifted back at the start.

FAMOUS GROUSE – Raced three wide without cover. L. Cheshire reported that her saddle shifted back at the start.

Race 6: CANCER COUNCIL QLD BDSRT HIB. CUP W.P. STAYERS SERIES – HEAT 4 BM70 H'CAP – 2450M

LEGSMAN – Improved on to the heels of PRETTY LUCKY near the 1900m and had to be steadied. Lost ground when steadied from the heels of the tiring CAPSIZED leaving the 600m and again passing the 300m.

FELIX BAY – Had to be steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room between MAJESTIC SOUND and WESTERN HEIR.

WESTERN HEIR – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, apprentice B. Newport stated that he was instructed to position the gelding where comfortable. Apprentice Newport added that in the early stages, despite his efforts, he was unable to improve forward of GODWOOD in an effort to obtain a position one off the fence outside of WHISPERING TESS. Apprentice Newport further added that as a consequence he was forced to race three wide before being forced four wide leaving the 1700m when GODWOOD improved to his inside. Apprentice Newport stated that he then attempted to ride the gelding forward to obtain a position closer to the fence but was unable to do so before GODWOOD again forced him wider on the track passing the 800m. Stewards advised apprentice Newport that he should have shown greater initiative in the early stages to clear GODWOOD and settle outside of WHISPERING TESS but bearing in mind his inexperience as an apprentice, did not believe that error was culpable under the rules of racing. Nonetheless, App Newport’s ride will be referred back to Apprentice School for further tutelage.

BETTERTHANYOUTHINK – Began awkwardly.

VODNIK – Began awkwardly.

PRETTY LUCKY – Improved on to heels near the 600m and had to be steadied.

GODWOOD – Raced three wide from the 1900m.

TEQUILA SLAMMER – Slow to begin.

WHISPERING TESS – Held up passing the 400m and the had to be steadied from heels leaving the 100m when inclined to lay in under pressure.

MAJESTIC SOUND – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, jockey A. Badger stated that she was instructed not to overly restrain the gelding as it often resented this tactic and overraced as a consequence. Jockey Badger added that for this reason passing the 1700m she was reluctant to restrain the gelding in an effort to maintain a trailing position behind BETTERTHANYOUTHINK. As a consequence, when taken wider by LEGGSMAN at that point she allowed the gelding to stride forward resulting in her racing three wide for the remainder of the race. Whilst noting the instructions, stewards advised jockey Badger that she had erred in failing to maintain that trailing position behind BETTERTHANYOUTHINK. Bearing in mind the way in which the gelding compounded from the 800m, Stewards did not believe her error was culpable under the Australian Rules of Racing. Jockey Badger was also reminded of her obligations not to use her whip on horses that are out of contention.
