NEWSPAPER - Bumped at the start. Was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, trainer Ms C. Lindgren explained that in the past NEWSPAPER had had issues with hoof abscesses, which necessitated farrier treatment. She said that she was satisfied that the horse had recovered from the ailment and a forward showing was expected today. Ms Lindgren added that at the gelding's most recent start it failed to handle the rain affected track.

Jockey K. Rockett was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that making the turn near the 500 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of CHEVAL ARGENTE (Jockey P. Cullen), which had to be severely checked and lost ground. MAURIZIO (Apprentice C. Jokic), which was following, had to be shifted wider on the track. Jockey Rockett was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight Saturday 14th May 2016 up to and including midnight on Monday 23rd May 2016. In assessing penalty stewards took into account his exemplary record inrelation to the rule.
