Stewards Report

CUNNAMULLA & DISTRICT DIGGERS RACE CLUB 25 APRIL 2016

WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – FAST RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman – G. Dimsey
Steward – B. Cooke
Veterinarian – Dr W. Barker
Bookmakers Supervisor – Stewards
Clerk of Scales - Stewards
Starter – D. Land

Race 1: LONE PINE BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP - 800m
1st – LA CLOISONNE 2nd – CAST OUT 3rd – RHYTHM NATION 4th – RODEL

CAST OUT – As jockey J. King was overweight, J. Rudd was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Jockey King was issued with a reprimand, with Stewards taking into account his good record in relation to this rule.

SAN DIEGUITO – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost significant ground, and was then reluctant to race in the early stages.

RODEL – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

TALKING NONSENSE – Raced wide throughout.

RHYTHM NATION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: GALLIPOLI MAIDEN PLATE – 1000m
1st – FORGOTTEN TUNE 2nd – CROISSANTS 3rd – MISS BONNIE 4th – WARRIOR OF PEACE

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of MISS BONNIE to view the patrol footage. After viewing the film all parties were satisfied and correct weight was declared on the judge's numbers.

FORGOTTEN TUNE – Tightened for room at the start. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

CROISSANTS – Raced wide throughout.

MISS BONNIE – Eased over the concluding stages when racing to the inside of FORGOTTEN TUNE (J. Rudd), which was laying in. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that FORGOTTEN TUNE did not cross or dictate to MISS BONNIE, and no further action was taken.

Race 3: RATS OF TOBRUK OPEN H'CAP – 1000m
1st – TORERO 2nd – ROYAL REWARD 3rd – BRITISH BULLDOG 4th – NO OTHER WAY

After all runners had been loaded in the barrier stalls MONTANUS and NO OTHER WAY became fractious, with NO OTHER WAY breaking through the front of the stalls. This then triggered the remaining stalls to open intermittently with all runners breaking through. All runners with the exception of MONTANUS and POLAR BLITZ were restrained after travelling varying distances. After taking evidence from all riders engaged in the event, and official starter Mr. D. Land, Stewards declared the race void acting under AR139 and ordered all monies invested on the event be refunded. Stewards subsequently ordered that the race be rerun at 4.50pm, with all runners to be cleared by the veterinary surgeon prior to the event.

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer B. Johnson to withdraw MONTANUS, which was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 3.38pm.

The start of this race was delayed when POLAR BLITZ was unable to be loaded. POLAR BLITZ was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 4.51pm. All monies invested on POLAR BLITZ were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable:

12 cents in the dollar for the winner #3
15 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #3
17 cents in the dollar for second place #6

Starting prices are subject to deductions.

Trainer J. Patterson was advised a warning will be placed on POLAR BLITZ.

ROYAL REWARD – Slow to begin.

Race 4: BATTLE OF FROMELLE CLASS B H'CAP – 1200m
1st – EMMAROSE 2nd – STONEYRISE 3rd – SECOND LOVE 4th – SCINTILLER

GIRLS SAY – Bumped heavily with another runner at the start.

CRAIG AND PEDRO – Bumped heavily with another runner at the start. Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance, which was below market expectations, trainer C. Smith reported that in his opinion the gelding resented the kickback, and advised that he would aim to start the gelding on grass tracks going ahead with its preparation.

KEEP THE CURRENCY – Raced wide throughout.

SCINTILLER – Jockey J. Rudd reported at scale that his saddle shifted rounding the home turn, placing him at a disadvantage for a short distance.

RUN LOLLY RUN – Weakened from the 600m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore. Trainer R. Frazer was advised he will need to provide a veterinary clearance for the mare before racing again.

Race 5: KOKODA TRACK QTUS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400m
1st – KING OF THE FLAME 2nd – MORE FAVULOUS 3rd – DIAMOND RUSH 4th – WONGARANDA

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when the connections of MORE FAVULOUS lodged an objection against KING OF THE FLAME being declared 1st, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available film Stewards determined that near the 100m KING OF THE FLAME commenced to lay out under pressure and near the 70m brushed with MORE FAVULOUS, however bearing in mind the actions of both riders and the margin of a head, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this contact warranted a reversal of the placings. The objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judge's numbers.

WONGARANDA – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with another runner, losing significant ground. Raced wide throughout.

KIRKHEATON – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground.

PLAIN 'N' SIMPLE – Bumped another runner at the start.

MORE FAVULOUS – Began awkwardly, bumped by another runner and lost ground.
