When questioned about the improved performance, trainer P. Sexton advised Stewards that in his opinion the filly was suited by the inside barrier and longer distance of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.MARKOVER – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice M. Schrapel reported the gelding was having its first start over 1400m and travelled well in the early and middle stages, however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure from the 400m. Stewards noted the explanation.Race 2: BMO ACCOUNTING SERVICES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1400m1st – WHYNOTROC 2nd – KAYENTA 3rd – IT’S ALL IRISH 4th – PROJECT COMPASSIONKAYENTA – Dwelt at the start, then began awkwardly with its head in the air. Raced wide from the middle stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance, stable representative E. Dorrington reported that the mare dislikes racing among other runners and was suited by missing the start and racing wide in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.DIVA DREAMER – Slow to begin.LE MAX – Raced keenly in the early stages.IT’S ALL IRISH – Shifted out at the start and bumped another runner.WHYNOTROC – Tightened for room at the start. Apprentice B. Newport was fined $100 for using his whip more than five times prior to the 100m.CHINSKY – Tightened for room at the start. Apprentice S. Van Der Sanden could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Sexton undertook to notify Stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the following days that may explain the gelding’s performance. Race 4: WESTERN DOWNS REGIONAL COUNCIL CLASS B H’CAP – 800m1st – NORDIC QUEEN 2nd – MUSTOLA GOLD 3rd – I AM RELENTLESS 4th – DR QUINCYKILKENNY MISS – Slow to begin.
