RACE 1: Helen Schlecht Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap 800m

Prior to correct weight being declared apprentice A Spinks, the rider of I AM MCLOVIN, wished to view the patrol film of the start as he expressed concern that his barrier was slow to open and my have been denied a fair start. After looking at the film stewards did agree with apprentice A Spinks that his barrier was marginally slow to open, however allowing for where the horse raced in the early stages and the manner in which the horse finished the race off stewards believed this did not have a material effect on the gelding’s performance and therefore it was declared a runner.

I AM MCLOVIN – After being slow to jump shifted in after passing the 400m causing tightening to runners on its inside. Apprentice A Spinks was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

FYNNSTAR – After passing the 600m shifted in slightly, brushing another runner.

DANNI’S DIVA – At the 650m shifted in causing some tightening to the runners on its inside. Hung out on rounding the home turn.

JILL’S SHADOW – Shortly after jumping was bumped heavily by another runner. After passing the 650m had to steady off heels when tightened for room. Laid out rounding the home turn.

RACE 2: API Leisure & Lifestyle QTIS Maiden Plate 800m

EVERINGHAM – Shifted in after jumping, blundered of its own accord and became unbalanced, causing tightening to runners on its inside.

GOING BALLISTIC – Fractious in the barriers and then raced greenly rounding the home turn.

TIME AND CHANCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, losing considerable ground.

EFFECTIVE ASSASSIN – Bumped by another runner on several occasions when approaching the home turn.

YOU LITTLE THIEF – Hampered by another runner shortly after the start, clipped heels and blundered.

AMBER JET – On jumping shifted in and bumped another runner.

Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice L Tilley rider of YOU LITTLE THIEF to view the film to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection. After doing so he elected to proceed and lodged a protest YOU LITTLE THIEF (placed 4th) against EVERINGHAM (placed 1st) ridden by apprentice J Hodge, for alleged interference shortly after the start. After hearing submissions from all parties and viewing the available patrol films, stewards were of the opinion that YOU LITTLE THIEF was hampered by EVERINGHAM, which shifted in and blundered and became unbalanced. However, bearing in mind the circumstances surrounding the interference and the 0.8 length margin between the two horses at the finish, stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered warranted a reversal of the placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight given on the numbers semaphored. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice J Hodge was reprimanded for shifting ground when not fully clear.

PETRANI – Rounded the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider on the track.

Correct weight was delayed to allow N Evans the rider of the second place horse DANGEROUS DANICA to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so he was satisfied with judge’s decision and therefore Stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
