SUPPLEMENTARY
 
From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 31/12/2016 – Races 7 & 8
 
All runners were inspected by QRIC stewards and veterinarians during the week and were subsequently cleared to start.
 
GENERAL

As jockey P. Hammersley was found to be overweight in Races 3 and 4 stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.  Jockey Hammersley was fined $300.00.
 
RACE 1: Pacific Fair Magic Millions Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st: Ajani   2nd: Dortmund    3rd: Rhymes   4th:  Of The Day
 
HASHTAG HERO – Bumped on jumping and became awkward.
 
OF THE DAY – Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied away from heels. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have been galloped on on the off fore leg.
 
KOTINOS – Passing the 1000m when being steadied got its head up and raced ungenerously.
 
ZAFINA – Approaching the 800m had to be steadied away from heels.  Held up approaching 200m until approaching the winning post.
 
TRUST ME – Near the 700m when racing fiercely had to be checked off heels and lost ground.
 
REGIMENTAL FORCE – Hung out rounding the home turn.  Raced wide without cover.  Hampered on straightening when tightened for room by OMIYA, which was taken out by HUSSON BOOTS.   Jockey R. Fradd (HUSSON BOOTS) was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out rounding the home turn when not fully clear of runners to his outside.
 
HUSSON BOOTS – Shifted out making the home turn and made contact with another runner.
 
MOUNT PANORAMA – Hampered shortly after entering the straight.  Held up approaching the 200m until approaching the winning post.
 
RHYMES – Hampered on the home turn.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from slight heat stress.
 
DOT PAINTING – Forced wider on the home turn.  Raced wide with cover throughout.  Cast an off hind plate during running.
 
AJANI – Forced wider on the home turn.  Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
OMIYA – Hampered shortly after entering the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from mild heat stress.
 
FIT FOR PURPOSE – Forced wider on the home turn.  Raced wide throughout.  A post race veterinary examination revealed gelding to be suffering from heat stress.
 
All horses suffering from heat stress recovered promptly after receiving treatment post race.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective.
 
 
RACE 2: Sky Thoroughbred Central Magic Millions Country Cup (Special Cond.) – 1200m
1st: Irish Constabulary   2nd: Lomazzo   3rd: Upstart   4th:  Naranja
 
PONCHERELLO – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
UPSTART – Jumped away awkwardly.  Checked when tightened for room upon straightening and lost ground.
 
MISHANI EL LOBO – Inconvenienced on straightening.  Near the 200m was hampered when taken in by another runner.  Raced 4 wide with cover throughout.
 
TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
SPUR LE JOUR – Steadied when disappointed for a run over the final 100m.
 
IRISH CONSTABULARY – Bumped upon straightening and became unbalanced.
 
LOMAZZO – Raced wide throughout.
 
LITTLE SHOCKER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
ROCKETTE ROCKET – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
QUEEN TARA – Jockey J. Lloyd reported that the mare overraced in the early stages and travelled comfortably in the middle stages before weakening over the final 200m.  Jockey Lloyd was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance.  Trainer T. Edmonds noted that the mare may be better suited when ridden with cover.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a slow post race recovery. 
 
Jockey A. Allen the rider of JADEDFOX pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out rounding the home turn taking MISHANI EL LOBO out onto UPSTART, which had to be checked and was taken out onto IRISH CONSTABULARY.  In this incident IRISH CONSTABULARY became unbalanced and shifted in slightly. Jockey Allen’s was suspended from riding in races for a period of eleven (11) days to commence midnight 15 January 2017 and to expire midnight 26 January 2017. 
 
 
RACE 3: UBET Magic Millions QTIS Open – 1300m
1st: Madotti   2nd: In His Stride   3rd: Jumbo Prince   4th:  Siegfried
 
SIEGFRIED – Overraced in the early stages.
 
SECRET TRAIL – Passing the 1000m got its head up when being steadied. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISTER BOOZE – Steadied from heels near the 1100m.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
HAVEASAY – Checked from heels near the 700m.
 
GLENDARA – Checked from heels near the 700m.
 
ABU BEN ADAM – Inconvenienced near the 1100m.  Approaching the 200m was briefly tightened for room. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
IN HIS STRIDE – Steadied near the 1100m when tightened for room.  Near the 200m was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of STEEL ZIP. Raced wide throughout.
 
POWERFUL SAGA – Raced 5 wide without cover throughout.
STEEL ZIP – Raced wide throughout.
 
SHOTACROSS THE BOW –Lost an off fore plate in running.
 
MISS COVER GIRL – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey D. Browne explained it was not his instructions to lead but to ride midfield with cover if possible.  Jockey Browne stated his mount began well but after travelling a short distance the tempo was only slow so he allowed the mare to stride forward and settle outside MADOTTI.  Jockey Browne added that when racing outside of MADOTTI the mare overraced and therefore he allowed it to stride forward and lead.
 
 
RACE 4: Moet & Chandon Magic Millions Trophy – 2200m
1st: Stratum Star   2nd: Feltre   3rd: Payroll   4th:  Centre Pivot
 
As R. Plumb was ill stewards permitted L. Tarrant to be substituted as the rider of LAREBIL.
 
Prior to correct weight jockeys M. Hellyer (FELTRE) and B. Shinn (CENTRE PIVOT) requested to view the patrol films to consider whether they should lodge objections. After viewing the films jockey B. Shinn declined.  Jockey Hellyer then lodged an objection against the winner STRATUM STAR (D. Lane) alleging interference at the 300m.  After taking evidence from both riders, trainers B. Smith and D. Weir stewards dismissed the objection as they were not satisfied that jockey M. Hellyer had fully established a run near the 300m between STRATUM STAR and BOOM TIME, along with the fact that STRATUM STAR was holding FELTRE in the run to the line.  Steward I. Brown did not deliberate or adjudicate on this protest.
 
METEOROLOGIST – Hampered at the start.
 
OUTRAGED – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
BOOM TIME – Inconvenienced passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
PAYROLL – Raced wide early before being ridden forward to settle outside the leader near the 1500m.
 
FELTRE - After altering course near the 300m to obtain clear running shifted in taking CENTRE PIVOT onto GYPSY MISS, which had to be steadied.
 
GYPSY MISS – Tightened for room from runners racing to its outside near the 300m. 
 
CENTRE PIVOT – Buffeted by FELTRE over the concluding stages.
 
M. Hellyer the rider of  FELTRE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CENTRE PIVOT, causing that horse to be buffeted and taken in onto PAYROLL.  Jockey Hellyer was suspended from riding in races for a period of eleven (11) days to commence midnight 15 January 2017 and to expire midnight 26 January 2017.
 
M. Hellyer (FELTRE) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in causing tightening to runners to his inside near the 200m.
 
CRAMMING – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained damage to the off fore suspensory ligament.  A veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
 
RACE 5: It’s Live! In Queensland Magic Millions Fillies & Mares – 1300m
1st: Private Secretary   2nd: I Am Zelady   3rd: Bidii Babe   4th:  Denpurr
 
PRIVATE SECRETARY required the attention of the farrier prior to the start to replace a cast near fore plate.  Returned to the enclosure with the off fore plate missing. 
 
STAR OF NIGHT – Jumped away awkwardly.  Shortly after the start was buffeted for room and had to be checked.  Raced wide throughout.
 
NOTONYOURLIFE – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room.
 
DENPURR – Slightly hampered for room shortly after the start.  Jockey T. Angland dropped his whip near the 100m.
 
CATCH A FIRE – Shifted in shortly after the start tightening runners to its inside.  Raced wide throughout.
 
FIFTYSHADESOFGREY – Shifted out shortly after the start hampering runners to its outside.  Raced wide throughout.
 
DEE NINE ELLE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.  Inclined to lay in throughout the race and leaving the 100m had to be steadied from the heels of FLIPPANT.  Raced wide throughout.
 
HIJACK HUSSY – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
FRILL SEEKING – Near the 1000m shifted in and bumped another runner.
 
EGYPTIAN SYMBOL – Bumped heavily passing the 1000m.  Jockey B. Avdulla reported that the mare was inclined to overrace for the majority of the event.
 
FLIPPANT – Raced wide without cover.

I AM ZELADY – Lost the off hind plate in running.
 
ELLE LOU – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
 
 
 
RACE 6: Woodford Reserve Magic Millions Cup – 1400m
1st: Testashadow   2nd: Perfect Dare   3rd: Snippets Land   4th:  Off The Rails
 
As T. Angland was overweight stewards permitted J. Byrne to be substituted as the rider of PERFECT DARE.  Jockey Angland was fined $200.00.
 
Upon arriving behind the barriers BALIGARI underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off fore leg.  BALIGARI was withdrawn by order of stewards at 2.37 p.m. acting on veterinary advice.  All monies invested on BALIGARI were ordered to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 2.37 p.m.:-
 
1 cent in the dollar for the win #9 (TESTASHADOW)
2 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #9 (TESTASHADOW)
2 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place #15 (PERFECT DARE)
1 cent in the dollar for the 3rd place #7 (SNIPPETS LAND)

Trainer L. Kennewell was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
LOYALTY MAN – Slow to begin.
 
LUCKY HUSSLER – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
 
MOST IMPORTANT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
 
SNOOPY – Checked when tightened for room over the concluding stages.
 
STRAWBERRY BOY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
OFF THE RAILS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SNIPPETS LAND – Jockey B. Shinn dropped his whip over the concluding stages.
 
R. Fradd the rider of MOST IMPORTANT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out over the concluding stages making contact with SNOOPY, causing that horse to be checked and taken out onto OFF THE RAILS.  Jockey Fradd was suspended from riding in races for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight 18 January 2017 and to expire midnight 30 January 2017.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
RACE 7: Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (Restricted Listed) – 1400m
1st: Flying Jess   2nd: Global Glamour    3rd: Eckstein   4th:  Winning Rupert
 
RARE OCCURRENCE – Passing the 1000m had to be steadied away from heels.  At the entrance to the straight shifted out and bumped ECKSTEIN near the 300m.
 
MISS WONDERLAND – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MR MARKOU – Bumped near the 300m.
 
WINNING RUPERT – When questioned regarding the performance of the colt jockey J. Lloyd stated it was always his intention to begin well and travel with cover.  Jockey Lloyd added that the colt travelled well however, he was concerned inside the 100m where the colt changed stride that there may have been something amiss.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be slightly short striding in the near fore leg. A swab sample was taken.
 
FLYING JESS – Trainer J. Maloney was questioned regarding the improved performance of the filly.  Mr Maloney stated that at its previous start at Canterbury on 31 December 2016 the filly was only beaten 2 ½ lengths and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Mr Maloney added that FLYING JESS was more suited today at the 1400m and has previously won over that distance. 
 
Jockey R. Wiggins (RARE OCCURRENCE) was fined $300.00 for returning to scale overweight.
 
RACE 8: Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic (Restricted Listed) – 1200m
1st: Houtzen   2nd: Chauffeur   3rd: Madeenaty   4th:  Goodfella
 
INVADER – Knuckled on jumping.
 
CELLARGIRL – Shortly after the start had to be checked when tightened for room.
 
OURS TO KEEP – Became unbalanced shortly after the start.
 
FROM WITHIN – Shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with another runner.  Held up rounding the home turn.  When questioned regarding the filly’s performance jockey H. Bowman stated that while he had raced in behind runners he was unable to secure clear running approaching the home turn and had to switch back to the inside, which in his opinion was inferior ground and the filly only ran home fairly.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
SAXTON ROCK – Jumped awkwardly and bumped another runner.
 
INVINCIBLE STAR – Bumped on jumping away.  Raced wide throughout.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying moderate heat stress and recovered fully following treatment.  Lost the near fore, and both hind tips in running.
 
FALCONIC – Slow to begin.
 
GOODFELLA – Approaching the winning post improved quickly between runners and made contact with INVADER.
 
BRING IT HOME POP – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ARRESTAR – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
CHAMP ELECT – Raced wide throughout.
 
REAL PRINCESS – Raced wide throughout.
 
HOUTZEN – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting mild tying up.
 
OURS TO KEEP – Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
RACE 9: Myer Magic Millions Sprint – 1200m
1st: Target In Sight   2nd: Viddora   3rd: Murt The Flirt   4th:  Dothraki
 
TARGET IN SIGHT – Blundered on jumping.  Lost the off hind plate in running.
LE CORDON BLEU – Slow to begin.
 
PROMPT RETURN – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
HUSSON EAGLE - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WAR JET - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
REAL GOOD - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
HIDDEN PEARL – When questioned regarding the performance B. Pengelly stated that the mare travelled well particularly in the middle stages and was at a loss to explain the disappointing effort in the straight.  Trainer B. Lockwood advised that the mare was showing signs of the thumps and would report back to stewards anything that may be amiss with the mare in the days following.
