GENERAL
 
As Jockey R Plumb was to be overweight in Race 3 (FILTERS) and Race 4 (WOTS WONG), rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary. In giving consideration to extenuating circumstances, Jockey R. Plumb was fined the sum of $200 under AR190(3).
 
 
Race 1 – Gallery Seafood Buffet Book Online QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap – 1400m
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Mr. J. Zielke, the trainer of HIDDEN SECRET, one of the dead-heaters for 3rd, to peruse the photo finish image. After viewing the photo finish, Trainer J. Zielke was satisfied with the Judges decision and correct weight was declared.
 
AUNTY SNOW – Fractious in the gates and reared on a number of occasions prior to the start being effected. Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with HIDDEN SECRET.
 
CHEEKY CHOPS – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m improved up inside the heels of REGAL ROMANCE for a short distance and had to be steadied.
 
HIDDEN SECRET – Bumped on jumping when AUNTY SNOW shifted out and became unbalanced.
 
GALVARINO – In the early stages when racing in a trailing position, commenced to over-race and got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to ride. Approaching the wining post was slightly inconvenienced by ALLO ALLO which laid out.
 
AROSEFORZOU – Raced three wide in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 700m.
 
REGAL ROMANCE – Approaching the 900m when the pace steadied, had to be restrained from the heels of HONEY BABY and shifted out making contact with HIDDEN SECRET.
 
ALLO ALLO – Laid out under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
 
Race 2 – Melbourne Cup Day Packages On Sale C,G&E Maiden Handicap – 1400m
 
PRINCE HUSSON – Stood flat-footed and then when jumping away, began awkwardly shifted in and lost considerable ground. Jockey A. Spinks reported that in his opinion the gelding resented the cross-over noseband and recommended to connections that they remove that gear for its next start.
 
DEGRADGRA – Slow to begin.
 
LA BENCA - Began awkwardly.
 
ELEMENTAE – Raced greenly throughout and was inclined to lay in. Passing the 900m when in a trailing position, got its head up when being restrained.
 
GAME SET MATCH – Raced three wide without over throughout.
 
DEBONAIR DES – Passing the 900m, bumped by ELEMENTAE which laid in and raced in restricted room for a short distance. Stable representative for Trainer S. Leef advised stewards following the event that the gelding was showing signs of being lame and needed veterinary attention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer S. Leef was advised that a veterinary clearance must be obtained prior to the gelding racing again.
 
SOLSPEIL – When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, Trainer M. Wilson explained that the gelding was immature in its previous campaign and therefore allowed the gelding to have a good spell. Upon resuming training, the gelding had improved in its maturity and has had the benefit of two trials leading into todays event. He added that the gelding had worked well during the week, and he had also experimented with gear changes which may have had some bearing on the improved performance today. He further added that he was not surprised by the win and was of the opinion that SOLSPEIL had a reasonable chance of finishing in the prize money today and expected the gelding to improve further and it may appreciate a step-up in journey for its future starts.
 
PIANO MAN – Following the event Jockey A. Fancourt reported that the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, however, the veterinary surgeon recommended the gelding be scoped. Trainer S. Parsons was advised that an endoscopic examination and veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding racing again.
 
 
Race 3 – Pink Ribbon Cup 21 September F&M Maiden Handicap – 1400m
 
The start was delayed when initially all horses were late leaving the enclosure as App. Guthmann-Chester and Jockey J. Taylor were held up in traffic prior to arriving on course.
 
JUST GIVEME RUBIES – Prior to entering the enclosure, stable representative for Trainer M. Lakey advised that they did not have a Kyneton noseband in their presence which is part of the fillys race gear. As they were unable to source one today at the course, the filly raced without that part of its advertised gear. Trainer M. Lakey was fined the sum of $100 for failing to present the horse to race in its advertised gear.
 
STARLIGHTER – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
LILIERO – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 1100m was bumped and dictated in by POWERFUL LASS and then passing the 900m when racing in restricted room to the inside of POWERFUL LASS was inclined to lay out and was awkwardly placed at the heels of that runner and had to be steadied.
 
POWERFUL LASS – Bumped on jumping.
 
BEANS N RICE – Began awkwardly.
 
BLAZING BELLE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. After racing in a forward position in the early and middle stages, commenced to weaken passing the 600m and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Perrin advised stewards that it would now be his intention to retire the mare from racing, however, stewards advised Mr Perrin that should circumstances change, the mare would be restricted to racing at country venues only until its form improved.
 
RHYTHM DANCER – After passing the 600m, commenced to hang out and in the home straight finished wide on the course and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that the filly would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
MOSHT UP – Passing the 400m was bumped and forced wider on the track by RHYTHM DANCER which hung out.
 
FILTERS – Passing the 300m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of STARLIGHTER.
 
 
Race 4 – South Coast Radiology QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
DECISIVE HEART – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m.
 
WOTS WONG - Bumped on jumping.
 
BALLATER – Began awkwardly and was bumped between runners on jumping. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
ZOULOU DANCER– Began awkwardly and bumped BALLATER.
 
SIZZLING ACE – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Cast its off fore plate during the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey G. Colless explained that the filly raced in a rearward position throughout and never travelled at any stage and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have an abrasion and swollen near side eye.
 
KATY BOOM – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
OH JAY MOWMOW – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of BALLATER which laid out slightly.
 
ZEPHYR CRUISER – Held up for clear running from the 400m until passing the 300m.
 
ESPANYOL – Laid out under pressure in the early part of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
FLAUNT – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
 
Race 5 – Membership Join Now Class 2 Handicap – 900m
 
The start was delayed when DORSET COAST broke through the barriers. After returning behind the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
 
The start was further delayed when MISS SMINKER became fractious and reared striking the rear of the barriers and dislodging its rider. The mare was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 2.40pm. All monies invested on MISS SMINKER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 2.40pm:-

Stable representative for Trainer J. Hepworth was advised that the mare must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
YOUR OPTION – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start commenced to lay out.
 
 
DORSET COAST– Began awkwardly. Approaching the 500m was awkwardly placed at the heels of ELEGANT ZOUS which laid out and had to be steadied.
 
MISSED OUT – Began awkwardly and was bumped.
 
ELEGANT ZOUS – When over-racing in a mid-field position was inclined to lay out.
 
JACKPOT JAY – Raced four wide throughout. Approaching the 200m laid in and made slight contact with MISSED OUT before being corrected by its rider.
 
INKBLOT – Approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run to the inside of TOUJOURS LAMOUR and then had to alter course to the outside to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
 
DUCHESS DASHALOT – Passing the 150m improved onto the heels of the weakening YOUR OPTION and had to be steadied and alter course to the outside.
 
 
Race 6 – Desi Driver Class 4 Handicap – 1400m
 
WILLS BID – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with RICH AFFAIR. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
TESARC – Began awkwardly.
 
CENTRAL WITNESS - Bumped between runners on jumping.
 
RICH AFFAIR – Began awkwardly and bumped by WILLS BID which in turn caused contact with CENTRAL WITNESS and lost considerable ground.
 
LEFKAS ISLAND – After passing the 200m laid in under pressure for a short distance.
 
BOLD WARRIOR – Over the final 150m laid out under pressure.
 
 
Race 7 – Bundall Tyrepower Class 1 Handicap – 1400m
 
BRAD BE BOLD cast a plate prior to leaving the tie-up stalls which had to be refitted. During that process the gelding became agitated and slipped over sustaining abrasions to its off side eye and off fore knee. Acting on veterinary advice the gelding was declared a late scratching at 3.42pm. All monies invested on BRAD BE BOLD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 3.42pm:-

MAGLEV – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BUFFALO GIRL – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start slightly inconvenienced by ETIKAAL which laid in.
 
DONT DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin.
 
ETIKAAL – Raced three wide without cover early before improving to a position outside the leader passing the 800m.
 
LOVES A LOTTERY – Passing the 900m attempted to shift out and bumped with SEAT OF POWER on a number of occasions.
 
CHEVAL RAPTIDE – Passing the 900m had to be steadied when tightened for room after improving to the inside on the heels of LOVES A LOTTERY which initially attempted to shift out but when unable to do so shifted back in slightly behind the leader.
 
DEUBANK – Raced three wide without cover from the 900m.
 
GOLDEN LILY – Raced three wide with cover from the 900m.
 
VIBRANT THUNDER – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 8 – Happy 50th Dave Curran BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1200m
 
NOOKS AND CRANNIES – Began awkwardly and bumped RED LETTER DAY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which NOOKS AND CRANNIES had bled, it will incur a lifetime ban from racing under AR79(6).
 
RED LETTER DAY – Bumped on jumping.
 
TAIKO BOOM – Over-raced passing the 700m and had to be restrained from the heels of NOOKS AND CRANNIES.
 
SIR MAGIC - Over-raced during the middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn. After passing the 300m was inclined to lay in when trying to improve to the outside of NOOKS AND CRANNIES causing its rider some difficulty for a short distance.
