RACE 6: "DIGGER" MURPHY CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, J. Byrne, the rider of PUNTINATO, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against RED CLAW being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the home straight. After viewing the videos, it was established that whilst RED CLAW shifted out marginally for the length of the home straight, no contact was made between runners and any interference suffered by PUNTINATO was inconsequential and bearing in mind the half neck margin separating both runners at the finish, the protest was dismissed.

MANDRYKA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

PANNO ROSSA – Slow to begin.

ON DEMAND – Began awkwardly.

KAYENTA – Slow to begin.

RACE 7: AMIEU F&M BM70 H’CAP – 1200M

VENECIA – Twisted the near hind plate. As the plate was unable to be refitted, the off hind plate was removed and the horse raced without rear plates.

RED LETTER DAY – Raced five wide throughout

THE YOWIE – Raced four wide throughout. Steadied when disappointed for a run approaching the 100m.

BABUR – Steadied when crowded for room between runners near the 600m.

CARRY THE DRINKS – Raced three wide without cover. R. McMahon stated that from the wide draw he allowed the horse to stride forward, however was unable to find a position closer than three wide. When asked why he did not elect to stride forward and cross runners to his inside, he said in his opinion the tempo of the race was solid and he was concerned that he would have had to make too much use of the horse to gain a position closer to the rail. R. McMahon added that he therefore allowed the gelding to travel comfortably and improve into the race of its own accord. He was also of the view that the track conditions towards the rail were inferior and he was comfortable to remain racing in the three wide position that he did.
