General

As jockey J. Morris was not riding at today's meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: University of Southern Qld Maiden H'cap – 800m

SHUDAPUTARINGONIT - The start was delayed when the horse was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. After arriving at the gates, the mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. A warning was placed on the horse's pre-race behaviour.

CHAT TIME – Was fractious during its preliminary, reared, dislodging S. Eilbeck, giving her a harmless fall. On arrival at the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Apprentice S. Eilbeck declared herself free of injury and was of the opinion her mount resented the tongue-tie. A warning was placed on the horse's pre-race behaviour.

MORE MARTINIS – Began awkwardly.

EL NINO'S BAMBINO – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously rounding the home turn and shifted out, bumping another runner. Momentarily steadied near the 400m when crowded for room between AMBITIOUS BLONDE and SHUDAPUTARINGONIT, which shifted out slightly.

AMBITIOUS BLONDE – Raced wide for the majority of the race, bumped by another runner rounding the home turn and shifted wider.

TONY BALONEY – Slow to begin.
Race 2: Savige Pest Control Maiden H'cap - 1666m

PREMIERE PLACE – Slow to begin.

HOLY HARRY – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward and racing outside the leader.

DAVOR – Inclined to overrace in the early stages and hung out.

STORMY DEEDS – Inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.

DUCHESS STAGHURST – Finished tailed off. Trainer J. Curtain was advised that a warning would be place on the horse regarding its competitiveness.

PUISSANCE DECHEVAL – When asked to explain the performance, jockey M. Hellyer stated that he was of the opinion the gelding was not comfortable on the tight turning circuit and as a result never travelled comfortably at any stage. He further noted that this was the horse's first run for over a month and was of the opinion that its run had ended over the concluding stages however would benefit from this outing. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 3: St Andrews Ipswich Private Hospital Maiden Plate – 1350m

ZHUKOVA - Initially slow to begin and was tightened for room between REMISSIO and RANI'S DYNASTY, which shifted out, resulting in ZHUKOVA losing more ground. Disappointed for a run leaving the 500m and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of MOONLIGHT DIAMOND. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near-side hock.

DRUMMER'S CHOICE – Began awkwardly and was tightened for room between MASTODON and KAPSTAR, which shifted out. A short distance later was then severely buffeted between those 2 runners for a short distance.

KAIZARI – Began awkwardly.

KAPSTAR – Hung out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

ROYAL KINGSTON – Became unbalanced leaving the 300m and shifted in, having to be steadied. Raced wide without cover throughout.

REMISSIO – Inclined to hang out under pressure in the early stages of the straight, and leaving the 100m jockey M. Hellyer lost the use of his near-side rein.

TEEKAYO – Raced wide.

MASTADON – Lost its off hind plate in running.

MOONLIGHT DIAMOND – Lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 4: Furnware Eddies Cup Benchmark 62 H'cap – 1350m

LEWAULO – Shifted to a 3 wide position leaving the 700m trailing VOODOO BLUE MAGIC. Jockey S. Galloway was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding. He stated that the horse's normal racing pattern was to race on the speed, however after beginning fairly was unable to muster its customary early pace and as a result was positioned back in the field, however travelled comfortably throughout the race but when asked for an effort leaving the 600m failed to let down as expected and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer's representative Mr G. Doughty agreed with the rider S. Galloway's assessment and gave an undertaking to report any abnormalities to stewards that may come to light which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 5: Tridan Electrical Contractors Class 4 H'cap - 1666m

MAGNATUNE – The start was delayed when the horse lost its near fore plate during the preliminary. After being replated, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. On return to scale rider N. Thomas was of the opinion that the gelding put in an awkward stride near the 100m and may have suffered an injury on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

HIT THE ROAD JACK – Correct weight was delayed whilst stewards reviewed the footage to ascertain if the horse had been afforded a fair start. Stewards ascertained that the horse reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground and was therefore declared a runner. The representative for trainer Mr R. Heathcote was advised that the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate for the horse prior to being permitted to race again.

SOMERSET LASS – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey A. Taylor reported at scale that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout the race.

UTMOST FAITH – Slow to begin.

ALL CLEAR – Slow to begin.

TAMPERE – Raced wide in the early stages.

GODZONE GIRL – Stewards questioned apprentice jockey B. Grylls regarding the tactics she adopted on the mare from approaching the 1200m until leaving the 800m where it appeared she allowed jockey J. Taylor, rider of TAMPERE, to shift in from a 3-wide position to 1 off behind the leader leaving the 1200m, and then leaving the 800m shifted to a 3-wide position to the outside of that runner. Apprentice Grylls, in the company of Rider Advocate Mr G. Stockdale, advised stewards that she felt her mount was not travelling comfortably at that time and was having trouble holding a position, so she then elected to try and steady her mount to allow it to travel more comfortably. She further added that once she allowed TAMPERE to shift in in front of her, GODZONE GIRL then commenced to race strongly, which is the reason she then shifted to a 3-wide position around TAMPERE. Apprentice Grylls also advised that her instructions were to ride the horse in a midfield position and obtain clear running from the 600m onwards. Whilst stewards noted her explanation, they nevertheless advised her that, in their opinion, she had erred leaving the 1200m and should have improved up taking a trailing position behind HARADIFY keeping TAMPERE in a 3-wide position. Stewards advised apprentice Grylls they would expect a rider of her experience to show better judgement in similar circumstances.

Race 6: Happy 60th Wayne Patch Transit Aust. Group QTIS 3yo Benchmark 70 H'cap – 1200m

LOFN – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn and shifted wider.

JACK LANCASTER – Shortly after the start was tightened for room between WILL TO RULE, which began awkwardly and shifted out, and LA DENNA ROSA, which also began awkwardly and was taken in by CHICA PEEPS. Shifted out leaving the 300m and bumped another runner.

WILL TO RULE – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

LA DENNA ROSA – Began awkwardly and taken in by CHICA PEEPS.

LOST CLASSIC – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ROXY RHYTHM – Bumped by another runner near the 300m.

MISHANI FORBIDDEN – Jockey N. Day was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 7: Programmed Property Services Class 2 H'cap - 1200m

ONE MORE TWO MORE – Slow to begin.

FRISCO JOE – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from entering the home straight and until approaching the 100m.

GRANDE GLORY – Began awkwardly.

GOTHIC MIGHT – Held up for clear running from leaving the 600m until entering the home straight.

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Apprentice B. Grylls dropped her whip near the 300m.

WISCONSIN – Raced 3 wide without cover.

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Raced wide.

ALL SALSA – Raced 4 wide throughout without cover. Stewards questioned apprentice A. Denby in the presence of Jockey Advocate Mr G. Stockdale into her riding of the horse, which raced extremely wide for the majority of the event. Apprentice Denby explained that she felt she was a victim of circumstances from the wide barrier and when attempting to improve forward to obtain a position closer to the rail approaching the 1000m was unable to as horses improved to her inside, and as a result was obliged to race wide throughout. Stewards advised her she may have had another option where she was able to restrain her mount and take a position closer to the rail with cover, and that she would expected to make greater effort in similar circumstances.

CONNIVING – A post race veterinary examination revealed a mild case thumps. Lost its near-hind plate in running.
