GENERAL
 
As Jockey L Cassidy was serving a term of suspension he was replaced as the rider of TE JINA ROSE in Race 2 by J Orman.
 
Due to this meeting being transferred from Beaudesert Race club on Tuesday 25th January, combined with the rail placement for today’s meeting, the distance of Race 1 and Race 8 was amended from 2500m to 2550m.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting -
 
Race 2- PRECIOUS ARMOUR- M Hellyer +1kg.
Race 6- GOSSIP COLUMN- B Thornton +1/2kg.
 
Race 1: BRAVE SMASH Maiden Plate 2550 metres
 
BURN THE BOATS – Raced wide from the 1000m. Near the 500m bumped and taken wider om the track when SPRIGGER shifted out to improve.
 
SPRIGGER - Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZOFF THE BOSS – Steadied when crowded near the 500m and the was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
 
ARCTIC DASHER – Raced three wide in the early stages before obtaining the position outside the leader near the 2000m.
 
 
Race 2: LEAN MEAN MACHINE Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
MARISSA – Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ECCENTRIC – Bumped at the start.
 
EYE WANTED – Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
CARRY ON DRAGON – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start, when momentarily racing in restricted room, raced ungenerously, and had to be steadied. Near the 1000m commenced to race keenly and as a result near the 900m had to be checked to avoid heels.
 
TABOO - Began awkwardly. Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KERRISDALE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the nearside hock, consistent with having been galloped on during the race.
 
 
Race 3: SKY RACING Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
AVENUE OF HEAVEN – Bumped at the start.
 
A CALL FROM HEAVEN - Momentarily held up rounding the home turn before shifting to the inside entering the home straight to obtain clear running.
 
CAPITAL EYES - On arrival at the barriers the bridle on the horse was readjusted. Raced three wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 900m.
 
MY SHAMANA – Jumped in at the start and bumped with MISS JEDI.
 
MOMEMORY – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped AVENUE OF HEAVEN.
 
MISS JEDI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 5.
 
Race 4: SKY RACING Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
ROMAN HEIR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
UNSUSPECTED – Near the 900m steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn before shifting out to obtain clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
HERTZKA – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost significant ground. Began awkwardly. Trainer J Edwards was advised the horse would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Near the 600m steadied when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
DECADE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer W Nugent was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. DECADE also cast its off fore plate during the running of the race.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 6.
 
 
Race 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
COUP – Raced three wide throughout without cover.
 
DEJANOVA - Began awkwardly.
 
ARCHERY BUTTS – Rider R Fradd could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a respiratory condition. Trainer P Jenkins was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance including the results of a satisfactory Endoscopic examination.
 
ROYAL PERFORMANCE – Slow to begin.
 
BEAUCHAMP – Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained. Held up rounding the home turn and then was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SECRET CONQUEST – Began awkwardly.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 7.
 
Race 6: BEAUDESERTRACECLUB.COM QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
ZA HIDDEN DRAGON – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
DRAMMATICA – Began awkwardly.
 
OMBRE VOLANTE – Bumped in the early stages.
 
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Jumped in at the start.
 
MISHANI BANDIT – After being bumped in the early stages by OMBRE VALANTE, commenced to race ungenerously and shifted inside the line of the running rail, and as a result, exiting the chute at the 1100m was forced to shift out making heavy contact with OMBRE VOLANTE. Consequently, MISHANI BANDIT commenced to race keenly and was obliged to check from heels for a considerable distance. A post-race veterinary examination an abrasion to the near foreleg and a poor post-race recovery.
 
 
Race 7: #BEAUYRACES BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1400 metres
 
Prior to the running if this race the track was downgraded to a Heavy 9 following heavy rainfall.
 
MURLESS (NZ) – Declared a late scratching at 3:45pm due to the track downgrade.
 
BERING SEA – Slow to begin.
 
VINASTA – Began awkwardly.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a heavy 10.
 
Race 8: BRAVE SMASH BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 2550 metres
 
Prior to the running of this event Stewards consulted with riders who competed in Race 7 and those riding in Race 8 and after due consideration to issues regarding visibility and the racing surface, the track was declared safe to continue racing.
 
SCILAGO – Declared a late scratching at 4:48pm due to the track downgrade.
 
BURY ROAD - Declared a late scratching at 4:48pm due to the track downgrade.
 
LIKEABEEL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KINGS ROW – Blundered shortly after the start.
 
FOUND THE MARK – Slow to begin.
 
TYCOON PLAYER - Declared a late scratching at 4:48pm due to the track downgrade.
 
Race 9:LEAN MEAN MACHINE Class 2 Plate 1100 metres
 
 
BULL DIMPLE RUM – Slow to begin.
 
ASHERLA – Reared and lost ground and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. When asked to comment on the performance rider A Mallyon stated the horse raced flat today and was disappointing. Trainer’s representative for K Lees advised in his opinion ASHERLA did not handle the prevailing heavy track conditions and the filly would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
