Race 7: EXCHANGE HOTEL C,G&E BM60 H’CAP – 1200M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer P. Sexton for the late declaration of A. Van der Sanden as the rider of HIZOU.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, A. Allen, the rider of EARL OF FORDYCE, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against HIZOU being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that although HIZOU did shift ground at that point, resulting in EARL OF FORDYCE receiving significant interference, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the ground lost by EARL OF FORDYCE exceeded the margin of 1½ lengths separating both runners at the finish and therefore dismissed the protest an
d declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry, A. Van der Sanden, the rider of HIZOU, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
