GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:

Race 1: THANKS SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 800 metres
 
I'M PINKER – Jockey J. Stanley reported at scale that the filly had every opportunity today and could offer no excuses for the performance.
 
VIKING VALOUR – Began awkwardly.
 
BETHEHORSE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight and approaching the finish line made contact with the running rail.
 
 
Race 2: CONGRATULATIONS GREGORY J. DECKER OAM Maiden Handicap 800 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed when ARTIESFLY underwent a veterinary examination after rearing in the barriers, the mare was subsequently passed to race.
 
TUANAKI CREEK – Declared a late scratching at 11.12 am when the gelding refused to load. Stewards ordered that all bets on TUANAKI CREEK be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st TIME TO STAR 0c win, 1c place
2nd EXCLUSIVE DROP 2c place
3rd MORE MAX 2c place  
Trainer Mr B. Phillips was advised that TUANAKI CREEK will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
WALLY'S REVENGE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Jockey A. Spinks stated that after beginning awkwardly his mount failed to muster any speed and raced a significant distance from the main body of the field throughout. Trainer R. Davidson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for poor performance.
 
CASHED UP KILLY – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey C. Eaton stated that after beginning well, the mare raced greenly and began to weaken approaching the home turn and down the running. Trainer Mr R. Davidson was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for poor performance.
 
TUANAKI CREEK – Declared a late scratching at 11.12am when the gelding refused to load. Trainer Mr B. Phillips was advised that TUANAKI CREEK will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Stewards ordered that all bets on TUANAKI CREEK be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st TIME TO STAR 0c win, 1c place
2nd EXCLUSIVE DROP 2c place
3rd MORE MAX 2c place
 
ARTIESFLY – Jumped out at the start and then lost ground when tightened between TIME TO STAR and MAGIC SUCCESSION which both shifted ground.
 
EXCLUSIVE DROP – Approaching the 200m, when shifting out to obtain clear running, then laid out and made contact with QUEEN’S REIGN which in turn made contact with MORE MAX, forcing that runner wider on the track. Apprentice S. Champkin was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
 
MORE MAX – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 3: THANKS FRAPPELL FAMILY-CLEAR MOUNTAIN FAIRVIEW STUD Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BAUHINIA ROCK – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 800m improved onto the heels of DUTCHY’S ANGEL, blundered and then shifted out, forcing ALBION SQUARE wider on the track. Apprentice M. Castle reported that in her opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation.
 
D'ESPRIT – Trainer Mr R. Stenhouse was fined $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Approaching the 100m, shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with BAUHINIA ROCK, which became unbalanced.
 
CLAUDIUS – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
 
DIVENIRE – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 4: THANKS PETER BOYCE OAM Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ELLOWS HALL – Stewards acceded to a request to scratch the gelding at the request of trainer T. Cotsiopoulos as in her opinion, the gelding would not be suited by today’s track conditions. ELLOWS HALL was declared a late scratching at 11.28am.
 
TYCOON ILLUSION – Began awkwardly. Eased down from the 500m. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed the gelding to be making an increased upper respiratory noise. Trainer A. Cameron was advised that AMANECER will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
 
LIGHT'S VISION – Near the 800m, steadied from the heels of PARUES. A short distance later contacted the running rail and became unbalanced.
 
AMANCER – Near the 500m was steadied and then awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance.
 
CRAIGLEA ETNA – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BEST SONG – Near the 500m, shifted out to obtain clear running and as a result AMANECER which was following had to be steadied and being awkwardly paced on the heels of that runner for a short distance.
 
ESPANYOL – Shifted out under pressure rounding the home turn. Apprentice E. Pomfrett in the presence of Racing Queensland Training Officer Mr G. McKay, was asked to explain the riding tactics adopted. E. Pomfrett stated her instructions were to go forward from the wide gate as the gelding best performs when ridden this way as it does not posses a sprint. She added that when she rode forward and obtained a position outside the leader PARUES near the 700m, in keeping with her instructions she allowed the gelding to stride forward where he was comfortable. Stewards advised E. Pomfrett that they felt she had erred in not attempting to settle her mount after obtaining a position outside the favourite PARUES near the 700m in preference of continuing to pressure her mount from that point. In considering E. Pomfrett’s inexperience, Stewards took the matter no further other to refer the ride to the Racing Queensland Training department for further tuition.
 
 
Race 5: THANKS SHANE 'BEAR' CHATAWAY Maiden Plate 1500 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey R. Jamieson, rider of second placegetter SUPER SWEET, to view the patrol footage over the concluding stages. Upon viewing the footage, jockey R. Jamieson lodged a protest against first placegetter CAERUS (M. Hellyer) alleging interference over the concluding stages. After considering the evidence, Stewards determined that CAERUS had shifted out under pressure inside the final 100m and approaching the winning post had brushed SUPER SWEET, however Stewards in considering the margin between both runners at the finish, were not of the opinion that the interference warranted a reversal of the placing’s and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
BLUE SWIMMER – When the pace of the race eased leaving the 1100m, had to be checked from the heels of IRONSTONE GAL.
 
VISCOUNT SYDNEY – Checked from the heels of IRONSTONE GAL passing the winning post on the first occasion. Jockey G. Steele, rider of IRONSTONE GAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a), the specifics being that as the rider of IRONSTONE GAL she allowed her mount to shift in passing the winning post on the first occasion when insufficiently clear of VICOUNT SYDNEY which had to be checked. Jockey G. Steele’s license to ride in races was suspended for seven days commencing at midnight the 9th of July 2023 and ending on 16th of July 2023. Shifted out and away from the heels of IRONSTONE GAL when making the turn out of the home straight. Leaving the 1100m improved onto the heels of IRONSTONE GAL, shifted out and bumped RUBY LOVES CARROTS, forcing that runner wider on the track.
 
I'M A RULER – Stood flatfooted and lost ground.
 
IRONSTONE GAL - Shifted out when awkwardly making the turn out of the home straight, resulting in VICOUNT SYDNEY having to shift out and away from that runner’s heels and taking RUBY LOVES CARROTS wider on the track.
 
SUPER SWEET – Stewards adjourned an inquiry into jockey R. Jamieson’s riding action over the concluding stages of the race as she had left the course.
 
RUBY LOVES CARROTS – Forced wider on the track leaving the home turn on the first occasion. Leaving the 1100m forced wider on the track and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
CAVALLA BELLA (NZ) – Eased down and pulled up at the top of the home straight. A veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg which required treatment on course. Trainer T. Churchill was advised that CAVALLA BELLA will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Ms Churchill was also advised that she must furnish the results of a follow up veterinary examination of the filly within the next twenty-four hours.
 
 
Race 6: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS / KILCOY BP DRIVEWAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1500 metres
 
CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT – Raced keenly approaching the winning post on the first occasion, and then shifted wider on the track and become unbalanced making the 1200m crossing. Approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race steadied, improved onto the heels of FORCE ME and had to be checked.
 
SARODEC – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
FORCE ME (NZ) – Checked passing the 700m. Apprentice A. Donald pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a), the specifics being that as the rider of RUN RAPANT, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ABOVE THE SKY which was taken in tightening the running of FORCE ME which had to be checked. Apprentice A. Donald’s license to ride in races was suspended for nine days from midnight the 8th of July and ending on midnight the 17th of July 2023.
 
SUKICHE – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, raced in restricted room. A short distance later shifted out despite the efforts of the rider, forcing MIDNIGHT BOOM and RUN RAMPANT wider on track leaving the home straight.
 
MIDNIGHT BOOM – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, raced in restricted room and had to be checked. Forced wider on track leaving the home straight, resulting in Jockey S. Collett becoming unbalanced in the saddle making the crossing at the 1200m.
 
MARMION – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, laid out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in SUKICHE and MIDNIGHT BOOM being placed in restricted room to the inside of ABOVE THE SKY, resulting in MIDNIGHT BOOM having to be checked. A short distance later in this incident, SUKICHE shifted out despite the efforts of the rider, forcing MIDNIGHT BOOM and RUN RAMPANT wider on track leaving the home straight. In this incident, S. Collett the rider of MIDNIGHT BOOM became unbalanced in the saddle making the crossing.
 
RUN RAMPANT – Forced wider on track leaving the home straight.
 
 
Race 7: SEARLE GARDEN PRODUCTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1500 metres
 
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running from the 600m until rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and approaching the winning post brushed with TOP BABE. Jockey C. Robertson was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using his whip on sixteen occasions in totality.
 
THE BRUMBY – Near the 1350m steadied from the heels of ATLANTIC ROYAL which shifted ground. Improved onto heels near the 1000m shifted out and raced wide from that point.
 
QUEST OF QUESTS – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, commenced to over race and then made the turn out of the straight awkwardly. Near the 150m steadied away from the heels of TICINO BELLE which shifted out slightly, KOHIKO which was following shifted to the inside of QUEST OF QUESTS to obtain clear running.
 
CARRY ON DRAGON – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, commenced to over race and made the turn out of the straight awkwardly. Leaving the 1100m commenced to over race for a short distance.
 
FORT MYER – Raced wide from the 1000m.
 
MODERN FAMILY – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 800m.
 
 
Race 8: THANKS NOLAN FAMILY- RAHEEN STUD Class 1 Handicap 1500 metres
 
FREDDIE – Stumbled on jumping.
 
ZELSON – Slow to begin.
 
EL ASTEROID (NZ) – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight and bumped with SELFIE TIME on a number of occasions approaching the winning post.
 
SELFIE TIME (NZ) – Inclined to lay out approaching and rounding the home turn. Shifted out to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and bumped with EL ASTEROID on a number of occasions.
 
EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Slow to begin.
 
AMALFI QUEEN – Apprentice A. Donald dismounted the mare on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed AMALFI QUEEN to be lame in the near hindleg. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised that AMALFI QUEEN will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
SPARKY GIRL – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 9: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1900 metres
 
ROYAL PERFORMANCE – Shifted out on jumping.
 
CAIRNDOW – Raced wide for the majority.
 
HE'S VIRAL (NZ) – Near the 1500m when the pace of the race eased, had to be steadied from the heels of CONFINED THOUGHTS.
 
SURREEL – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BUDDY'S TALE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 10: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1900 metres
 
GOOGAZ – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLD DELAGO – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages. Near the 1600m, was buffeted when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of SEERESS, which had commenced to over race, and was placed in restricted room and buffeted when HELL OF A PRINCE shifted in. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey M. Hellyer was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.
 
HELL OF A PRINCE – Over raced during the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SEERESS - Near the 1600m, was buffeted when momentarily tightened for room.
 
MASTER OF MENACE (NZ) – Slow to begin.
