GENERAL: Mackay Turf Club, Thursday 17th November 2016:
 
Stewards today questioned Stable Hand Mr Buonanova in regard to his behaviour towards an official on the day. After hearing submissions Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied his actions were culpable under the rules.    Nevertheless, he was admonished and advised not to leave his actions open to question in future.
 
At a subsequent inquiry, Mr Buonanova pleaded guilty to a charge under L.R.7(e), in that he worked as a stable hand on the day, when he was not the holder of the appropriate licence. Mr Buonanova was fined $200.
 
As Jockey R. McMahon failed to arrive on course due to transportation difficulties, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. R. McMahon will be interviewed at a later date into the reasons he failed to arrive on course.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 1: Channel 7 BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1800 metres
1st  - MONTANA HERO  2nd  -  SKELETONS  3rd  -  CALL ME RINGO  4th  -  ROETHLISBERGER 
 
CALL ME RINGO - Slow to begin.
 
MONTANA HERO - Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2:  4MK BenchMark 70 Handicap  - 1050 metres
1st  -  SHEPIKTUS  2nd  -  FOUR EXCEL  3rd   -  DANE SLUGGER  4th  -  BON TEMPS
 
WHITEHOUSE AFFAIR - After initially being slow to begin, was buffeted between runners. In this incident WHITEHOUSE AFFAIR lost ground.
 
DANE SLUGGER - Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start.
 
MAHRAJAAN - Began awkwardly and shifted in at the start. 
 
BON TEMPS - Began awkwardly.  Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
Following the running of this race Jockey A. Butler was examined by the Ambulance Officers. Acting on their advice he was stood down for the remainder of the day due to a previous injury to his left hand. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. A. Butler was advised he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.

Race 3  -  Mackay City Racecourse Markets Maiden Handicap -  1050 metres
1st  -  FUTUREAL  2nd  -  ZATORIO  3rd   -  WATTO'S JET  4th  -  THREE HENRYS
 
As S. Sheargold was unable to make the allotted weight of 54kg as the rider of CAREFILLY he was replaced by D. Simmons.
 
RACEY CHICK - Slow to begin.
 
JACKPOT JOKER - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
THREE HENRYS - Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
ALEXANDER - Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
FUTUREAL -  Jockey A. Coome dropped his whip near the 200 metres.
 
ZATORIO - Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
BELMONT TURF BELLE - Raced ungenerously  for a short distance near the 200 metres.
 
Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that leaving the 200m he permitted WATTO'S JET to shift in when insufficiently clear of BELMONT TURF BELLE (App. Z. White), which had to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Sheargold's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 3rd December 2016, up to and including midnight 11th December 2016.
 
EASY AS PYE - Jockey S. McGovern was fined $100 under A.R. 145 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram above his declared weight.
 
Race 4: Daily Mercury QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap  -  1100 metres
1st  -  SIRTRUSTICE  2nd  -  EL GRADINO  3rd   -  FRAAR JESTER  4th  -  RANGA ROCKET

As S. Sheargold was unable to make the allotted weight of 54kg as the rider of SHADOW BOLT he was replaced by D. Simmons. S. Sheargold was fined the sum of $200.
 
SIR TRUSTICE -  Bumped heavily at the start.
 
ELUSIVE -  Bumped heavily at the start.
 
RANGA ROCKET - Slow to begin.
 
LUARICA - Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had a laceration to its near hind leg.
 
OUR BOY PENDLES - Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
BONINO - Approaching the 300 metres commenced to hang out resulting in the gelding shifting out and the bit pulling through the geldings mouth, placing its rider at a disadvantage. This allowed SIR TRUSTICE to improve on the inside of that horse. Connections advised they would experiment with a gear change prior to its next start.
 
FRAAR JESTER - Raced wide throughout.
 
TILLINO - Raced wide for the majority of the race. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 5: Whitson & Dawson BenchMark 70 Handicap  -  1560 metres
1st  -  TURKEY BEACH  2nd  -  STYLISH LUCK  3rd  -  STOP CRYING  4th  -  COVENTRY
 
STYLISH LUCK - Slow to begin, leaving the 1200 metres shifted out to improve and raced wide until a point near the 800 metres. Apprentice Q. Krogh was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres.
 
TURKEY BEACH - Raced ungenerously for a short distance when being restrained near the 1200 metres.
 
Race 6: Payne Print BenchMark 60 Handicap -  1200 metres
1st  -  MISS ANNA  2nd  -  DRAGSTER  3rd   -  CLATEAU  4th -  HI MACKAY
 
MISS ANNA - Slow to begin.
 
STRONG WILL - Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
WORTHY HERO  - When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey S. Sheargold stated that the horse did not seem to be entirely comfortable throughout the race, failed to run on as anticipated and was disappointing. Trainer J. Wehlow explained that, whilst he was disappointed with the gelding's performance today, the horse had proved to be inconsistent, nevertheless he was expecting a forward performance having regard to its track-work leading up to todays race. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
CLOSE THE BEACHES - When asked to explain the performance of the horse, rider L. Attard stated that in his opinion his mount did not feel comfortable throughout the race and was disappointing.  Trainer M. Attard advised stewards that in light of today's performance it is his intention that it be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 7: Smartstate Rentals BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1560 metres
1st  -  RAPIDSET  2nd  -  LIGHTNING LORD  3rd   -   MYSTIC HARMONY  4th -  PRINCE OF BARODA
 
BEYOND - Began awkwardly. Following its disappointing performance trainer W. Winters advised stewards that it is now his intention that the mare be sent for an immediate spell.
 
UNDER THE WEATHER - Began awkwardly.
 
PERCULES - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
As App C. Bayliss was unable to fulfil his engagement as the rider of MIDNIGHT SONG due to transportation difficulties Stewards permitted App R. Payne to be substituted. Stewards advised C. Bayliss not to accept rides he was not able fulfil in future. 
 
RUFFY ROAD - Blundered on jumping, threw its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1200 metres when being restrained and near the 1100 metres improved onto heels, shifted out and inconvenienced another runner.
 
HIDDEN DAISY - Steadied to avoid heels near the 1100 metres. Was bumped at the start and again near the 200 metres.
 
LIGHTNING LORD - At the start shifted out and made heavy contact with another runner.
 
MYSTIC HARMONY - Was bumped heavily on jumping.
 
RAPIDSET - Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 200 metres and bumped another runner.
 
MIDNIGHT SONG - Raced very ungenerously rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight, proving very difficult to ride and  eventually was retired from the race. Trainer J.
