Central Queensland Amateurs – Rockhampton 13/05/2017
 
Following a medical incident after the running of race 7 stewards, in consultation with Jockey A. Butler, agreed that he not accept riders under 57 kilograms for a period of six weeks, up to 24th June, when stewards will review the matter.
 
Late riding changes/Late notifications:
 
As Jockey D. Hayes was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Vale for the late declaration of riders for his horses: RIVER BOY (Race 2); EXTRA COVER (Race 4).
 
 
 
 
Race 1: EASYLOC Maiden Plate - 1560 metres
 
RANGA ROCKET  - Slow into stride.
 
MONACO ROCKET - Shifted in on jumping and crowded another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
TEST MY FRIENDSHIP - Slow into stride after being crowded by another runner on jumping, and had to be restrained off heels near the 700 m.
 
JUCY LUCIE - Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Trainer Mr J. Campeao when questioned into the competiveness of the filly advised that it was his intention that the horse be retired from racing, Mr Campeao was nonetheless advised that its nominations would be refused at TAB meetings  until form improvement by way of country meetings.
 
BELLA UNO - Raced wide from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
BOY IN A MILLION - When questioned regarding the performance Jockey L. Attard advised stewards that his instructions were to ride the gelding off the pace, if possible. However, after beginning well he elected not to restrain his mount in the early stages. Jockey Attard said that in his opinion the horse was disappointing today and was not suited by the extra distance of today’s race.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 2: CBG Partners 2-Years-Old Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
 
SCURRY - Fractious in the barriers. Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
 
CRAIGLEA NIKITA - Fractious in the barriers. Over-raced early and wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Bumped by another runner near the 200 metres.
 
MY MIND IS MADEUP - Proved difficult to load into the barriers. Over-raced in the middle stages. Trainer A. Jenkinson was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
 
JAY JAY - Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Bumped with another runner near the 200 m. Jockey A Coome dropped his whip near the 50m.
 
FORGOTTEN FEELING - Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. Jockey Evans was fined $300 under A.R. 137A(5) for excessive use of his whip prior to the 100 m.
 
 
 
 
Race 3: Blacks Real Estate Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
 
HOT TEMPO - Very slowly away. Ride D. Evans dropped his whip approaching the winning post. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by rider D. Evans, in particular from leaving the 600m until the winning post.
D. Evans stated that after being slow to begin the horse was tailed off and did not respond to his riding in the early and middle stages, he further added that when the field commenced to fan leaving the 400m he elected to ride the mare for luck inside runners instead of shifting wider rounding the home-turn, He attempted a narrow run shortly after straightening between IRISH EYES (S. Sheargold) and GRANDZONE ROCKET (B. Grylls) and when both those runners shifted ground slightly he was disappointed for that run and had to check the momentum of his mount. From this point on he was unable to obtain clear running and was of the opinion that if that run had eventuated the horse would have finished much closer. Trainer Mr L. Wanless when questioned in relation to the riding instructions stated that no specific instruction had been issued however the mare had been slow to begin in previous starts and under the circumstances agreed with the tactics adopted by rider D. Evans and was not overly disappointed with the mares performance today.
Whilst Stewards noted their explanations rider D. Evans was advised that in their opinion he may erred in not shifting wider earlier in an effort to obtain clear running and in future not to leave himself open to question in similar circumstances.          
 
NINO GOLD - Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
MISS MARSEILLE - Raced wide for the majority of the race. Was inclined to shift ground outwards under pressure in the home straight.
 
WATTO'S JET - Raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 4: S.H. Tait & Co BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1800 metres
 
The start was delayed when Mystic Harmony shifted its near fore plate requiring farrier attention.
 
VEGAS FLYER - Bumped with another runner at the start. Made the 1500 m crossing awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
DANE SLUGGER - Bumped with another runner at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages and was inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
 
SPY CI - Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
ROMANOV - Raced wide from the 600 m.
 
LA PRENSA - Shifted wide to obtain clear running near the 200 m.
 
 
 
Race 5: Marchant Signs BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1560 metres
 
STYLISH LUCK - Slowly away.
 
INTIMATE KINGDOM - Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
 
COVENTRY - Was inclined to over-race passing the 1200 m
 
OKAY SWIFT - Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
CLEANSING ALE - Raced wide rounding the home turn. Stewards spoke with Jockey A. Butler regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. He advised that in his opinion the gelding was slightly disappointing and that the lack of pace in the race, and the fact that the gelding was having its second start after a spell, over 1560 mad also   played a part in today’s performance.
 
THANKGODFORFRANC - On returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons reported that the gelding had pulled up short in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Micallef will be advised a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race start,
 
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason why PULSAR (Apprentice Z. White) had to be checked and lost its rightful running approaching the 100 m
 
Race 6: Blue Rive Ice BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1300 metres
 
LOGICAL OUTCOME - Was a late scratching, at 9.43 a.m., due to transport difficulties.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed due to a camera malfunction and the photo finish of the event not being available. Stewards reviewed the judge's decision based on the official race film and were satisfied with the judge's decision. Accordingly, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
 
ELJAY ATOM - Over-raced in the lead in the early stages.
 
Race 7: Ginger's Cold Room Hire Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres
 
Jockey S. Sheargold was fined $100 when he was dually engaged, for SNIP 'N' DRIFT and FLICKA ROCKET. When no suitable senior rider was available, stewards permitted Apprentice Z. White to be substituted as the rider of FLICKA ROCKET.
 
FIRESTAR PHOENIX - Shifted in after being bumped on jumping.
 
MOONLIT CLOUD -  Shortly after the start was inconvenienced by another runner, which shifted  in.
 
BIG SHOES - Soon after the start was inconvenienced when taken in by another runner. Steadied off heels near the 1000 m.
 
SNIP 'N' DRIFT -  Inconvenienced by another runner, which was taken in on jumping..
 
SHAHQA - Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
 
LIGHTNING LORD - Approaching the 200 m shifted in under riding, causing BIG SHOES (Jockey D. Simmons) to be checked and make contact with the running rail. Jockey M. Barnham pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a). His licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, from midnight on 20th May 2017 to midnight on 30 May 2017.
 
Race 8: Queensland Electric Truck Maintenance Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres
 
MON CLINTON – Slowly to begin. Bumped by another runner soon after the start. Near the 100 m had to be checked and made contact with the running rail, after CORNISH TALES (L. Attard) shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey Attard pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) and was suspending from riding in races for a period of 7 days, from midnight 20th May 2017 to midnight 27th May 2017.
 
BITE THAT LIP - Bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
RENEGADE RUBY - Began awkwardly and bumped another runner.
 
GOLDEN BANK - Shifted in near the 1000 m when not quite clear of KAHUNA (Apprentice N. Summers), which had to be restrained. Rider Z. White was reprimanded under A.R. 137(a). A post-race veterinary examination revealed that GOLDEN BANK was suffering mild heat stress and showing a poor post-race recovery.
